This pivotal event is expected to play a substantial role in the upcoming series. To prepare for its release, Marvel has initiated the copyright filing process. The official synopsis submitted to the United States Copyright Office reveals the central premise of Echo.
It revolves around Maya, portrayed by Alaqua Cox, as she grapples with her quest to reconnect with her Native American heritage while simultaneously assuming control of Kingpin’s criminal empire. It also hints at the significance of Kingpin’s role in the show, as evidenced by his second billing in the credits. The synopsis reads:

Vincent D’Onofrio Set to Return as The Kingpin in Echo
Marvel Studios/Disney+
Vincent D’Onofrio is making a return as Wilson Fisk in Echo. Images from the set showcase his transformation into the Marvel Comics character, with him sporting a striking white jacket, waistcoat, and black shirt. D’Onofrio previously shared how Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige personally reached out to him for his return to the MCU. The actor was initially taken aback, thinking, “Wow, maybe he’s gonna invite me to the MCU,” and indeed, that’s precisely what happened.
“[I was approached] earlier this year. Kevin called me and of course I said, ‘Hell yeah.’ I was told from my representatives that he [Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige] wanted my phone number and he called me directly.”My first thought was ‘Wow, maybe he’s gonna invite me to the MCU,’ and that’s what he did immediately. He started talking about Hawkeye.”
Charlie Cox is also set to reprise his role in the series. While the exact extent of his involvement in the story remains a bit of a mystery, fans can expect to see him back in action before his own series, Daredevil: Born Again, takes center stage. The Born Again storyline, serving as the inspiration for this new series, delves into the exposure of Daredevil’s secret identity and the systematic dismantling of his life by arch-nemesis, Kingpin. The potential success of this reboot hinges on the creators’ ability to strike the right balance, catering to both die-hard fans and casual viewers alike.
In addition to D’Onofrio and Cox, the series boasts a diverse cast, including Zahn McClarnon, Chaske Spencer, Tantoo Cardinal, Devery Jacobs, Cody Lightning, and Graham Greene. As of now, Echo does not have a confirmed release date, as it was initially scheduled for November 29, 2023, but has been postponed to January 2024.
