The iconic portal scene from the Russos’ Avengers: Endgame is recreated with MCU characters from Marvel’s Multiverse Saga’s Phase 4 in new art.

Avengers: Endgame’s iconic portal scene is recreated with MCU Phase 4 characters in new art. In 2019, Joe and Anthony Russo finally culminated the Infinity Saga with Avengers: Endgame. After the set-up in Avengers: Infinity War, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, and their allies banded together to put up a united front against Thanos and his massive army. This resulted in an epic third-act battle on the Avengers HQ grounds. The whole action set piece had many memorable moments, but nothing is as iconic as the portal scene where everyone who was dusted from the snap came back to help the remaining Avengers.

More than three years since Avengers: Endgame hit theaters, the MCU continues with the Multiverse Saga. Phase 4 wrapped up with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, with Phase 5 about to begin with Ant-Man 3 which is described as MCU’s peak. In light of this, digital artist Gio Abcede imagines what Endgame’s portal scene may look like with Phase 4 characters, including newly-introduced ones such as Shang-Chi and Ms. Marvel and more familiar faces like Loki and Wong in a new illustration. Can Avengers: Endgame’s Portal Scene Be Topped In The Multiverse Saga?

The Avengers: Endgame portal scene instantly became a fan favorite. It has also set the standard in the MCU moving forward. While the 2019 film’s third-act battle was somehow expected considering the franchise’s penchant for ending their blockbusters with something similar, It’s still unique in its own way thanks to its delicate balance of funny, emotional, and action-packed moments. It also allowed for fun team-ups that would otherwise never happen in the MCU such as Spider-Man and Valkyrie riding a Pegasus. Lastly, it was the lead-up to another iconic moment when Captain America finally delivered his “Avengers, Assemble” line.

Given the precedent it’s set, it’s curious how Marvel Studios is planning on topping the moment. It’s an understatement to say that it would be a tall order to do that considering how much that moment meant to the MCU. So instead of simply recreating it, the best way to address this dilemma is for the franchise to do something entirely different in a way that would still assemble that many Multiverse Saga characters. The reason why Avengers: Endgame’s portal scene worked is that it perfectly fits the film’s narrative. With this, Marvel Studios need to take that into consideration when crafting their next big universal moment moving forward.

It may be a while, however, before something similar comes along in the MCU. After Avengers: Endgame, the next ensemble film in the franchise isn’t scheduled to hit theaters until the end of Phase 6. Avengers: The Kang Dynasty will see Earth’s Mightiest Heroes re-assemble against Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror. After that, the whole universe will continue its collective arc in Avengers: Secret Wars.
