‘Fallout’ Season 2 Rotten Tomatoes Score Revealed as First Reviews Drop In
Dec 18, 2025
Fallout Season 2 has landed a franchise-best Rotten Tomatoes score alongside its surprise early release, with reviews indicating fans won’t be disappointed with the show’s continuation. The post-apocalyptic drama debuted the first episode of its sophomore run earlier than planned, picking up in the aftermath of the first season’s epic finale, and seemingly providing all the humor, thrills, and adventure that the video game adaptation was celebrated for the first time around, as the series is once again awash with critical acclaim. The second season of Fallout initially snagged a perfect 100% critics’ score, per Rotten Tomatoes’ much-anticipated reveal. It currently holds a 98% score (from 40 reviews published so far), with an equally impressive 96% audience approval rating. The two percentages surpass those of the first season, which earned a steady 93% on both the Tomatometer and Popcornmeter. It is an impressive feat, but it shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise as Prime Video expressed confidence in the continuing success of the series when it handed out a third season renewal, several months before its scheduled Season 2 premiere. Prime Video’s live-action adaptation of Bethesda’s popular video game series stars Ella Purnell (Yellowjackets), Walton Goggins (The White Lotus), Kyle MacLachlan (Twin Peaks), and Aaron Moten (Emancipation), among many others, including a few newcomers for Season 2. The story shifts focus and takes audiences through the wasteland of the Mojave to the post-apocalyptic city of New Vegas, as Lucy and the Ghoul venture into new territory on their “buddy road trip.” The change of scene and expansion seems to be a hit with critics, with some even stating that Fallout Season 2 is better than the inaugural run of episodes.

Fallout Season 2 has received widespread critical acclaim – smashing expectations and exceeding the high praise of the first season, with reviewers largely in agreement about its strong continuation. Many were pleased to see that the show had seemingly managed to avoid the “sophomore slump” that others have fallen victim to, and commended the series for retaining the core elements that made the first season so popular while also building on its extremely solid foundation and capturing the spirit of the source material perfectly. “Season 2 [has] all the panache, humor, gore, and verve it had in Season 1. Not a trace of the sophomore slump to be found in the Wasteland,” USA Today’s Kelly Lawler asserted in her glowing review of the second season. Jamie Parker from CBR went a step further and awarded it an even higher honor, saying, “With this season, Fallout cements itself as the definitive post-apocalyptic show and one of the best shows in 2025.” Geek Vibes Nation’s M.N. Miller described the new series as “powerful, wickedly funny, and totally immersive,” noting that it “continues to get better and better,” while Aaron Pruner from CNET summed it up by saying:
“For a show that explores the gritty underbelly of humanity while tackling topics such as corporate warfare, the military-industrial complex, classism and the erosion of the nuclear family, it’s a truly enjoyable ride.”
Fortunately for fans – of which the show seems to have many – the ride is far from over. The second season of Fallout follows a weekly release schedule (unlike the first season that dropped in one go), which means a new slice of the action will arrive every Wednesday until the eight-episode run is complete. The final episode will be made available to Prime Video subscribers on Feb. 4, 2026, and is expected to end on a cliffhanger to entice viewers back for the third season when it eventually lands on the streaming platform.
