First Look at Jason Momoa’s Lobo Not Leaking From DCU’s ‘Supergirl’
Mar 6, 2025
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is already turning heads, even with the fact that James Gunn’s first DCU movie is months away from release. While we know production is already underway for the upcoming addition to the DCU, Gunn has been keeping the details of the project under lock and key, with only a still of the back of Milly Alcok’s head to hold fans over until a bigger teaser. Even Sebastian Stan, who plays Bucky Barnes in the MCU, has voiced his unbridled excitement for the upcoming DC film. So, when is Gunn finally going to loosen the reigns a bit?
While little is known about the upcoming Supergirl film, it seems that’s been Gunn’s intention this entire time. Sure, we know that the film will be about Kara Zor-El’s origin story and will include former Aquaman actor, Jason Momoa, as the antagonist Lobo, an alien from the utopian planet of Czarnia who is commonly portrayed as a bounty hunter and slaver. But that’s about all fans know about Momoa’s upcoming DCU appearance, and possibly all they will know until Gunn is ready to approve a trailer.

Beloved Action Director Wants to Helm Jason Momoa’s Lobo Standalone Movie
The man behind ‘John Wick’ and ‘Deadpool 2’ is desperate to give Lobo his own movie in the DCU.
The DCU leader recently commented on his intention to stay as private as possible about his exciting superhero projects. CinemaBlend posted a quote from Gunn himself about how the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow team intends to keep Momoa’s Lobo design a complete secret until they’re ready to share a first look. How does Gunn plan to do this in the age where all paparazzi have a zoom lense? By not letting Momoa be seen outside in his Lobo getup, of course. Check out his statement below.
“It’s probably going to be a while to be frank with you, because it’s all in outer space. With ‘Superman,’ we were sort of forced because we knew we were going to shoot outside for weeks. Like, ‘Oh, let’s just throw something out there.’ So we did. But with Jason, I’m not sure. I don’t wanna be cocky, because you never know. It’s not a big… We’re not gonna have to go shoot outside in the middle of London for three weeks where they’re gonna be getting pictures of Lobo so we have to release a picture earlier than we’d want to.”
Some Fans Are Reading Too Far Into James Gunn’s Words
DC Comics
While X users are not known for their civility, some have taken to commenting about how the fact that James Gunn isn’t filming outside means the film will somehow look bad because they believe green screens will be used. “Green screen palooza,” one X user said. However, that’s not even the worst of the comments that have stemmed from Gunn’s words.
Some fans simply can’t separate Gunn’s DCU endeavors from the Zack Snyder films that came before. So, naturally, a few users found it funny that Gunn specifically said he wasn’t going to film outside, connecting that to the time Snyder filmed a scene for Justice League in his backyard during the height of the pandemic. But Gunn’s comment is almost certainly not about Snyder’s past DC movies.
Maybe it’s the lack of information or volatile social media environment surrounding the comic book movies that have fans champing at the bit to either love or hate Gunn’s DCU. Fans have been successfully kept in the dark about the production of the film, but they can rest assured knowing that talent folk like director Craig Gillespie and writer Ana Nogueira are behind the project.
