First Steps’ Footage Reveals First Look at Pedro Pascal, The Thing & More

Feb 10, 2025

Marvel’s first family are suiting up for another mission, this time in the MCU, as the first trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps

has just been released online. The trailer was teased yesterday, with Marvel Studios releasing a short and sweet teaser trailer, which accentuated the movie’s retro-futuristic setting and aesthetic. The studio has now revealed the first full-length trailer, and it has given fans the best look yet at Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing, and Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch. Fans have been waiting months for the movie’s first trailer, and it delivers in a big way!
Fantastic Four: First Steps has finally taken its first steps with the new trailer. The footage opens with our first look at the iconic Baxter Building, The Fantastic Four’s home base, as Sue Storm and Reed Richards show a visitor around the base. Pedro Pascal and Vanessa Kirby look uncanny as Richards and Storm, respectively. The opening is also shot in a 4:3 aspect ratio, to mimic the standard aspect ratio of TVs from the 1960s. Everything about the trailer screams sci-fi ’60s, including the team’s costumes.
We get a great look at the entire Fantastic Four line-up in the new trailer. Once the aspect ratio changes, the trailer reveals Moss-Bachrach’s The Thing. There was some contemplation and debate among the fan base during the film’s production about whether First Steps would use a practical costume or CGI for the geologically challenged hero. The final design looks like a strong blend of both, and is akin to Korg (Taika Waititi) from Thor: Ragnarök. Finally, Johnny Storm’s powers are also revealed, as he soars through the air, albeit without shouting “Flame on!”
‘Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Trailer Reveals Galactus!

As well as showing off the titular superhero family, the first trailer for Fantastic Four: First Steps also gave fans a glimpse of their new adversary: Galactus. Ralph Ineson (The Green Knight) is lending his iconic voice to the immensely powerful Marvel villain. While the trailer didn’t completely reveal the character, it showcased Galactus’ iconic helmet, and his sheer scale, as he made the Statue of Liberty look as small as a lollipop. Although, Galactus’ herald, The Silver Surfer (played by Julia Garner), was notably absent from the trailer. However, John Malkovich briefly appeared in our first look at his mysterious role.

Most importantly, Fantastic Four: First Steps doesn’t appear to be another origin story. The Fantastic Four have been adapted on the big screen twice in the past, and even your grandma probably knows how they got their powers. The trailer showed glimpses of the characters’ pasts, but it doesn’t feel like the movie will be a dedicated origin story, as the found-family have already found each other at the start of the trailer. Fantastic Four: First Steps is directed by Matt Shakman (WandaVision), and is based on a script by Peter Cameron, Josh Friedman, Jeff Kaplan, Eric Pearson, and Ian Springer. The trailer also cemented the film’s release date of July 25, 2025.
