Gabriel Luna on Ghost Rider Return: ‘Anything Is Possible’
Mar 9, 2023
We may not have seen the last of Gabriel Luna as Robbie Reyes. Previously, Luna played the Robbie Reyes version of Ghost Rider in the TV show Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and there were plans at one point for him to get his own spinoff series. That spinoff was ultimately scrapped and Luna hasn’t been seen in the role since his Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. appearances.
To promote his new series The Last of Us on HBO, Luna participated in an interview with THR and addressed a potential return as Ghost Rider. The actor is touched that so many Marvel fans keep asking about this possibility years after he wrapped up his run in the role. He makes it clear that he’d be “absolutely happy to do it” if he gets a call to get involved, especially with fans still continuously rooting for it to happen.
“It’s wonderful that people love Robbie and grew to love him as much as I did. I’m always open to telling a good story. So if it all comes across and the pieces are there, then I’m absolutely happy to do it. I keep myself physically able, and with the way they’re taking things, truly anything is possible. If you asked me the same question two-and-a-half years ago, I probably would’ve said, ‘I’m happy with what we did, and if all people ever get to see or remember are those ten episodes of Agents of SHIELD, then that’s something I could live happily with my entire life.’ But when I talk to fans now and I hear that they’re still holding a candle for Robbie after six years, it makes me very proud.”
Luna agrees that the introduction of the multiverse in the MCU makes a potential return that much more possible, and at this point, the ball is in Marvel’s court, as the actor is waiting for their call.
“So those future plans are all kept safely under lock and key in the Marvel vault. Kevin Feige has his ideas and designs of what’s going to happen, but should they ever come knocking, my door is open. You’re right. From the way that the story is unfolding, the multiverse certainly opens up that door that I previously may have been on my way to closing. It’s Hollywood, man. Things change overnight, so I’d be open to a conversation.”

Luna also touched on a possible Ghost Rider return in a recent interview with ComicBook.com. He similarly expressed how happy he is with his previous portrayal but made it clear he’s on standby to show up as Robbie Reyes in the MCU if he gets the call. He also said that Ghost Rider deserves to appear in the MCU, even if it’s another actor in the role.
“There are so many places you can go because in the comics he became an Avenger and he’s now the All-Rider, which is pretty awesome when you think about it. He’s become quite an important piece in Marvel publishing so if he were to appear again, he absolutely deserves it. Whether it’s me or not.”
In the meantime, fans can see Luna in The Last of Us on HBO.
