‘Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage’ Adds ‘Young Sheldon’ Star Lance Barber

Feb 1, 2025

Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage has already become a well-regarded successor to the wildly popular Young Sheldon, which in itself was a prequel to The Big Bang Theory. The new CBS sitcom, which began airing in the fall of 2024, features an all-new cast of characters in addition to the titular familiar faces from Young Sheldon. However, it did not take long for Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage to include special appearances from other Young Sheldon alums, but the latest cameo may be the most exciting (and confusing) one yet — George Cooper Sr.
As reported by TV Line, Lance Barber is set to reprise his Young Sheldon role as George Cooper Sr. in an upcoming episode of Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage. It’s unclear when the episode will air, but series creators Chuck Lorre, Steve Holland, and Steven Molaro discussed the impending cameo while on set for the sitcom. Holland revealed that Barber would return as George in dream sequences for Georgie, who wonders if his dad would be proud of him. The co-creators confirmed that they had thought about bringing the fan-favorite father back since the spinoff’s inception, and found a way in the aforementioned episode.

“His dad visits him in a dream. George is thinking about his dad, and he’s worried that his dad might be disappointed in him…. [The idea] came out of a conversation we’d had with Chuck, even early on, talking about the show. Chuck had said about his own father that he still dreams about him, he still visits him, so that was a thing we had thought about. And then when we were breaking this episode, it just seemed like a great opportunity to bring George back.”

Although it’s been known that the creative voices behind the series wanted Barber back as his Young Sheldon character from the start, it is exciting to learn that it has already become a reality. Check out the first look at Barber as George Cooper in the in-progress episode of Georgie & Many’s First Marriage below:

Is ‘Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage’ Getting a Season 2?

George Cooper Sr. will be making his return in an episode during the latter half of Georgie & Many’s First Marriage Season 1. After quickly becoming a hit with critics and audiences, 14 more episodes were ordered for the first season, and that will presumably include Lance Barber’s special appearance. However, it is too early to tell if Georgie & Many’s First Marriage will be getting a Season 2. There are still over a dozen episodes left to air on CBS, and until we get closer to the season finale, an official renewal announcement will likely not be made. That said, its Season 2 chances are looking quite good.

‘The Big Bang Theory’ universe grew into spin-offs ‘Young Sheldon’ and ‘Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage,’ but very few characters are in all three.

The eighth episode of the series came out on Jan.30, and the rest will air weekly on CBS and later stream on Paramount+. As the title suggests, Georgie & Many’s First Marriage is only the beginning of a life-long journey featuring the newlyweds, and fans are already speculating how the first marriage will end. If renewed, Georgie & Many’s First Marriage can go on for several more seasons, as long as the audience still responds to the series. Meanwhile, The Big Bang Theory is prepping its own spinoff, which will likely be the first off-shoot that will take place after the original series ended.
