Jan 6, 2026
From the makers of Uri: The Surgical Strike (2019), another patriotic movie makes its way to the Bollywood big screens on December 5, 2025. Titled “Dhurandhar”, translated as “Stalwart”, it features Ranveer Singh opposite an ensemble cast comprising Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, and R. Madhavan. This Hindi-language violent espionage action-thriller is inspired by real-life events and has been written, co-produced, and directed by Aditya Dhar.
Silent, But Violent: Starring Ranveer Singh In and As Dhurandhar!
Dhurandhar (2025) Synopsis: The Tale Of A Deadly Spy
Dhurandhar (2025): A Star-Studded Action Saga: Starring Ranveer Singh (Left) as Indian Spy Jaskirat Singh Rangi, disguised as Hamza Ali Mazari in Pakistan, and Akshaye Khanna (Right) as the don of Karachi, Rehman Dakait
India seeks vengeance from Pakistan in response to the IC-814 hijacking and the 2001 Parliament Attack. To eradicate Pakistan’s ruthless mafia in Karachi, the Pakistani government conducted the crackdown Operation Lyari. However, unknown to the rogue country, a high-risk covert operation against Pakistani criminal syndicates is also underway on behalf of India.
What is this secret mission? Wait for the mystery to unravel with violence, blood, and gore, as a shady character by the name Hamza Ali Mazari (Ranveer Singh) enters the crime-plagued land of Pakistan!
Experience Ferocity Unleashed In Dhurandhar (2025) Official Trailer:
The Good:
Dhurandhar is a fierce and high-octane spy action-thriller. It is based on true incidents of rivalry and geopolitical tensions between India and Pakistan from 1999 to 2009. During the early 2000s, the Pakistani government conducted a crackdown operation on criminal gangs that were operating in Karachi. In light of this, India, as an act of revenge against the IC-814 hijacking and the 2001 Parliament Attack, decided to deploy a daring and indomitable secret mission to infiltrate Pakistan and destroy a powerful terrorist network operating there.
I must tell you, the film is absolutely lethal! Every instance of the 3-hour-and-35-minute screen time is filled with tension, fury, and bloodshed. There are barely any light moments throughout the screenplay where you can relax your eyes for some humorous or romantic moments. In fact, Dhurandhar is a must-watch for every violent action and thriller fan.
The Silence Roars In Dhurandhar With Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, and Sanjay Dutt!
“Ghayal Hoon, Isliye Ghatak Hoon”, meaning “I’m injured, which makes me deadly!” This single dialogue does most of the talking for Ranveer Singh’s silent yet aggressive Indian spy character, who is the center of the story. His machismo, screen presence, and body language were immense. Kudos to his ability to undergo tremendous makeovers for his filmy roles!
Ranveer plays a fictitious Indian spy character named Jaskirat Singh Rangi in this true story, who was disguised as a Muslim, Hamza Ali Mazari, in Pakistan. Although the rest of the cast were based on real characters like the lead antagonist Rehman Dakait, played by Akshaye Khanna, and Pakistani cop SP Chaudhury Aslam, played by Sanjay Dutt, Ranveer’s character left us wondering who this might have been. The fact is that the true identity of this protagonist Indian spy in Pakistan, played by Ranveer, will never be disclosed for national security reasons.
Sanjay Dutt as Pakistani encounter specialist cop, SP Chaudhary Aslam, the most dreaded enemy of Rehman Dakait, in Dhurandhar
Akshaye Khanna as the lead villain, Rehman Dakait, was terrific. His ferocity and vivid expressions made his villainous character even more intimidating. He completely stole the show and even overshadowed Ranveer’s protagonist character. Sanjay Dutt as the Pakistani encounter specialist cop SP Chaudhary Aslam appeared vengeful. The supporting cast, including R. Madhavan as Indian Intelligence Bureau Director Ajay Sanyal (based on Ajit Doval) and Arjun Rampal as Pakistani terrorist Iqbal (based on Ilyas Kashmiri), gave their best performances.
The visuals and sets realistically depicted the Pakistani environment. The cinematography has a retro effect of the early 2000s era, which made it convincing enough.
The Track “Ishk Jalakar – Karvaan” From Dhurandhar
The Bad:
Sara Arjun plays Ranveer’s love interest, Yalina, in Dhurandhar
Dhurandhar may stir your patriotism. But upon watching this movie, I felt a severe lack of basic emotions. This is just a revenge story where a lethal Indian spy is deployed in Pakistan to cause ruckus and bloodshed. You will not find a single instance in the screenplay that will help you connect with the protagonist. Throughout the movie, Ranveer’s spy character has been shown working for a Pakistani gang, plotting against them, and killing them. So, an emotional connection is direly lacking.
Arjun Rampal as an ISI terrorist, Major Iqbal in Dhurandhar
Moreover, there was a lack of chemistry between Ranveer Singh and the lead actress, Sara Arjun, owing to their huge 20-year age gap. A complete mismatch! Sara appeared like Ranveer’s daughter rather than his girlfriend in the movie. I don’t know how this casting decision was made. Given that other actresses who would have been better suited opposite Ranveer were available. Maybe showing the originality of the situation where the Indian spy character Ranveer plays might have made a Pakistani girlfriend half his age in real life. Who knows?!

R. Madhavan as IB Director, Ajay Sanyal, in Dhurandhar
Even though the camerawork and the sets are praiseworthy, the toxicity is too much. Some of the visuals are menacing with regular gang confrontations, extreme violence, and gory bloodbaths. This gave Dhurandhar an “Adult Only” certificate. I must make you aware that certain scenes are extremely raw, which contain killings by violent head smashes, bomb blasts with body pieces and limbs scattering, and vicious torture of skinning a prisoner alive. This film is not suitable for children, even with parental guidance, and is also not recommended for people with weak stomachs.
The Verdict: A Much-Hyped Gangster Action Drama Which Overcame A Massive Pre-Release Controversy!
The runtime of Dhurandhar is long, with several subplots that may divert you from its original narrative. You may get bored if you are not very much interested in underworld and crime dramas.
But for patriotic men who also happen to be action cravers, like me, Dhurandhar will give you an adrenaline boost. The plotting against Pakistani terrorists and the high-intensity raw action scenes involving killing the bad guys will fill you with patriotism. You would get excited enough to shout out loud and cheer for India’s glory in the theater hall.
Mind it, this dark historical action drama is only for violent movie enthusiasts. If you are more into romantic, adventurous, or comedy movies, you may not find Dhurandhar intriguing.
Get Ready To Witness Ranveer Singh as India’s Most Daring Spy In Dhurandhar!
I must also make you aware of the massive controversy that Dhurandhar faced before its theatrical release. Rumors circulated that Ranveer’s spy protagonist character was based on late Major Mohit Sharma, an Indian Army Officer who had infiltrated terrorist groups in Kashmir. The family of late Major Mohit Sharma had also filed a High Court petition against the filmmakers for showing Sharma’s life and covert operations in the film without their consent. However, based on these accusations by Sharma’s family, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) re-examined the film but found no link to him.
So, this high-budget action thriller was on the verge of being banned. It was approved for release as the CFBC examination found no similarity with Major Mohit Sharma’s life and contributions. What’s more, Dhurandhar has a cliffhanger climax, and its post-credit scene announced a sequel, which is set to be released on March 19, 2026.
