Girl Group Katseye Releases New Single ‘Gnarly’

May 5, 2025

Getting a new KATSEYE single. Gnarly.

Pop girl group KATSEYE, comprised of members Daniela, Lara, Manon, Megan, Sophia and Yoonchae, released a new single, “Gnarly,” earlier this week. The just-over-two-minute hyperpop track is the first to be released by the six-member group since their debut EP, SIS (Soft Is Strong). The song – described in a release as “quaking 808s, gritty rave synths and a pugnacious attitude” – is the beginning of the group’s new era.

“We want people to feel the vibes, to really connect with our music. ‘Gnarly’ feels true to us,” KATSEYE said in a statement. “It’s bold, it’s fun, and it shows a different side of what we’re about.”

KATSEYE, billed as an international group, was formed by Hybe and Geffen Records’ joint partnership using K-pop artist development methodologies through the audition program The Debut: Dream Academy. The young women’s journey to the group was documented on the Netflix docuseries Pop Star Academy: KATSEYE.

“[The documentary] is very intense. It’s very emotional. I think I cried every single episode, but it is a great documentary,” Daniela told The Hollywood Reporter last summer as it was being released.

“One of our big, big things is that we want to show our diversity,” Manon previously told THR about how the group wants the world to see them. “I think it’s such a beautiful thing about our group that every young girl can look at our group and see herself in us because we’re so diverse and different.”

“Gnarly” was produced by Pink Slip, Tim Randolph, Hybe founder “Hitman” Bang and Slow Rabbit. Watch the video below.
