Glass Eyes Featured, Reviews Film Threat
Dec 9, 2023
Daniel Meyers’ short film, Glass Eyes, falls right into the wheelhouse of why the zombie genre is so popular. During the zombie apocalypse, people are forced to make life-saving decisions, and those choices can have severe consequences.
Brian May and Sophia Lucia Parola play a couple spending a romantic evening on the beach. Sophia’s character must get the last bottle of wine after losing a game of rochambeau. On the way back, she is attacked by a horde of zombies. Brian’s character has to make a split-second decision to either save his love or save himself.
“…has to make a split-second decision to either save his love or save himself.”
Glass Eyes is a straightforward zombie story. Meyers sets the stakes of this loving relationship between Brian and Sophia beautifully as it leads to the aftermath of Brian’s choice. The short moves so fast that I hate spoiling anything. Suffice it to say Brian has a chance to explain the decision he made. I’ll just say I’m not exactly sold on the ending, but since it lasts only five seconds, I’ll let it go.
The beauty of short film is that it allows filmmakers like Meyers to tell a zombie story on the cheap and, in turn, focus on that human tale.
