Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire gets a new teaser trailer, revealing new scenes of how Kong obtains his injury with the Skar King. Directed by Adam Wingard, who also helmed 2021’s Godzilla vs Kong, the upcoming Monsterverse sequel features the two eponymous titans teaming up to take down the Skar King, a formidable new ape-like enemy. The film, which stars Rebecca Hall and Dan Stevens, is confirmed to feature Kong adopting a powerful mechanical arm after sustaining an injury in battle.

Is The Skar King The Monsterverse’s Most Powerful Titan?
Why Godzilla & Kong Will Have Their Hands Full In The New Sequel
The larger Monsterverse franchise of movies has now featured a number of titans and monsters, most of whom have been dispatched by either Godzilla or Kong. Godzilla, for example, fights multiple MUTO monsters as well as Ghidorah in his first two solo movies. Although not technically a titan, Mechagodzilla appears at the end of Godzilla vs Kong and is defeated by the combined power of both hero titans.
Godzilla vs Kong
is currently available to stream on Max.
The Skar King, however, is shaping up to be the most powerful titan ever introduced into the Monsterverse. Like Mechagodzilla, the Skar King can seemingly not be defeated by either Godzilla or Kong working alone, and they have to team up once more. Unlike Mechagodzilla, however, who was defeated fairly swiftly in one destructive battle, the Skar King serves as the antagonist across an entire movie, speaking to just how challenging he will be to actually defeat.
So far, it’s not entirely clear what powers Skar King will have beyond sheer strength. Trailers have shown him using a flail-like weapon called Whiplash, which is fashioned from the spinal column of a dead titan, but he doesn’t seem to have any energy-based powers like Godzilla’s atomic breath. While many mysteries remain about the Skar King in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, he will clearly be a major threat to the two titular monsters and the world at large.
