‘Harry Potter’ HBO Reboot Series Set Photos Reveal Hogwarts’ Great Hall

Jul 12, 2025

HBO’s Harry Potter reboot series is gearing up to start filming soon, so building work is currently underway to create all the huge practical sets for the wizards (and maybe the occasional Muggle) to navigate. New photos from the set of the highly anticipated TV adaptation have surfaced online, showing early construction on the most iconic franchise location, where fans can expect many classic scenes to play out over the course of the series — which is planned to have seven seasons, each adapting one of J.K. Rowling’s novels. The images, which arrive courtesy of WW_Direct on X/Twitter (seen below), offer a first glimpse of what looks to be the Great Hall inside Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The construction reveals a massive timber structure shaped into an arch, resembling the grand entrance to the large hall where students of each House convene for meals and other gatherings. There appears to be some additional building work taking place on decorative panels that might end up being the prominent windows that surround the room.

10 Ways HBO’s ‘Harry Potter’ Reboot Can Be Different From the Movies

For the most part, the ‘Harry Potter’ movies followed the novels like a blueprint, but there are several things that the TV show can improve upon.

The Great Hall at Hogwarts is the setting for several significant events in the Harry Potter series, including the iconic Sorting Ceremony for new students, the Dueling Club sessions, the Yule Ball celebration, and many, many seasonal feasts, featuring a wide array of dishes (much to Ron’s delight). The room also served as a major backdrop for the Battle of Hogwarts. The climactic confrontation with Lord Voldemort and his forces is one of the most epic moments in the book and the film version, making it a difficult one for HBO to top.
HBO’s ‘Harry Potter’ Reboot Is Rebuilding Many Key Locations

The Harry Potter series will be filmed at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in Hertfordshire, UK, the same location where the eight Harry Potter movies were filmed. Some of the original sets were preserved and are now on display at Warner Bros. Studio Tour London at Leavesden Studios. It was unclear whether the HBO reboot would be reusing pre-existing sets or creating new locations, but it looks like the team behind the upcoming adaptation are not cutting any corners when it comes to the new version of the Wizarding World saga. The series is intended to be a “faithful adaptation” of Rowling’s novels, featuring all the iconic locations from the story. An earlier photo from the set gave a glimpse of a massive location that is likely to be turned into Privet Drive, where the Harry Potter story truly begins. Other sneaky snaps have revealed the construction of Platform 9 ¾ (packed with Muggles, of course) and what looks to be Diagon Alley (the place for all your bits and bobs for doing your wizardry), preparing for the first season to adapt the events of the first book. The new take on the magical franchise is written and executive produced by Succession alum Francesca Gardiner. She is teaming back up with Mark Mylod, who is set to executive produce the series and direct multiple episodes for HBO in association with Brontë Film and TV and Warner Bros. Television. Other executive producers include Rowling, Neil Blair and Ruth Kenley-Letts of Brontë Film and TV, and David Heyman of Heyday Films. The team are working together to bring the Harry Potter series to screens in late 2026 or early 2027. Sources: X/Twitter, ComicBookMovie.com
