Harry Styles Attends Pope Leo XIV’s Historic Conclave Election

May 11, 2025

When Pope Leo XIV was elected as the late Pope Francis’ successor, Harry Styles was one of the many in the crowd present for the occasion, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

In a photo circulating online, the singer was spotted by fans in Saint Peter’s Square in the Vatican on Thursday for the historic moment. The Grammy winner was seen wearing a blue jacket, sunglasses and a grey baseball cap.

Following the end of his Love On Tour, Styles has been spotted in various parts of the world during his travels. Styles was seen participating in a marathon in Tokyo in March and joined a London run club last April.

Following Pope Francis’ death in April at the age of 88, Catholic cardinals elected the first U.S. pope, Chicago-born missionary Robert Prevost, who becomes the 267th pontiff to lead the Catholic Church.

The 69-year-old member of the Augustinian religious order has spent his career ministering in Peru, and took the name Leo XIV. Despite concerns about a U.S. pope, Prevost reportedly had been a leading candidate for the papacy, despite a long taboo against a U.S. pope given the country’s geopolitical power. Prevost is also a Peruvian citizen and had lived for years in Peru.

Ahead of the 2025 conclave, Catholic cardinals reportedly consulted Edward Berger’s 2024 acclaimed drama film of the same name. Cardinals watched Conclave as a “helpful research tool” to learn more about the process of selecting a new pope according to Politico.

While appearing on NBC Chicago, Pope Leo XIV’s older brother John Prevost revealed that in a conversation with his brother before the conclave he asked him if he had watched the film to “know how to behave.” Prevost then shared, “And he had just finished watching the movie Conclave.”

Francis, recognized as the first Latin American pope, died on April 21 after a stroke that led to heart failure. The 2025 conclave is the first since Francis’ election in 2013.
