HBO’s ‘Game Of Thrones’ Spinoff ‘A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms’ Delayed To Early 2026

May 14, 2025

HBO has been hammering away with a slew of spinoff shows connected to the massively popular “Game of Thrones” franchise created by George R.R. Martin, as the mature fantasy series has becoming a giant success for the television studio and is already shooting the third season of “House of The Dragon” and “A Knight of The Seven Kingdoms” on deck, based on Martin’s string of “Tales of Dunk & Egg” novellas.
However, Warner Bros. Discovery announced at the television upfronts (via Variety) that there will be release delays concerning “A Knight of The Seven Kingdoms” as the new spinoff series won’t be airing in late 2025 as originally planned and has been pushed into early 2026 without an exact date.

HBO’s official synopsis for “A Knight of The Seven Kingdom”:
A century before the events of “Game of Thrones,” two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.
Assembled for the next chapter in the mature fantasy series we have a cast that includes Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan the Tall (Dunk, The Hedge Knight), Dexter Sol Ansell as Egg (Prince Aegon Targaryen), Finn Bennett as Aerion Targaryen, Bertie Carvel as Baelor Targaryen, Tanzyn Crawford as Tanselle, Daniel Ings as Ser Lyonel Baratheon, and Sam Spruell as Maekar Targaryen.
Thankfully, the show has been shot and won’t have a grim fate such as Naomi Watts‘ doomed prequel spinoff pilot “Bloodmoon” (from writer Jane Goldman and director S.J. Clarkson) or the gestating Jon Snow continuation that would have seen legacy actor Kit Harington returning to the franchise that was cancelled not too long ago.

In fact, Martin revealed back in March that “A Knight of The Seven Kingdoms” has already been given a second season and is in the works, which would give us the impression HBO and the brass holding the pursestrings at WBD are happy as well. Warner’s film division is also cooking up a “Game of Thrones” feature film, and is in very early development.
Fans will just have to be patient to learn about when exactly in 2026 the show will be released. During that same WBD upfronts presentation, attendees were treated to a first-look trailer for “A Knight of The Seven Kingdoms,” which is bound to find its way online.
