Starring Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, and a veritable smorgasbord of elite British acting talent, the film follows a group of septuagenarian amateur sleuths who set out to solve a local murder. Oh, and it’s based on Richard Osman‘s bestselling 2020 novel, the first in a series of four (soon to be five) books; so, if this is a hit for Netflix, expect this whole troupe to be back for a sequel.
Here’s an official synopsis for “The Thursday Murder Club,” courtesy of Netflix:
Based on Richard Osman’s international bestselling novel of the same name, THE THURSDAY MURDER CLUB follows four irrepressible retirees – Elizabeth, Ron, Ibrahim and Joyce – who spend their time solving cold case murders for fun. When an unexplained death occurs on their own doorstep, their casual sleuthing takes a thrilling turn as they find themselves with a real whodunit on their hands.
Along with Mirren and Brosnan, “The Thursday Murder Club” also stars Ben Kingsley, Celia Imrie, Naomi Ackie, Daniel Mays, Henry Lloyd-Hughes, Tom Ellis, Jonathan Pryce, David Tennant, Paul Freeman, Geoff Bell, Richard E. Grant, and Ingrid Oliver.
Chris Columbus directs “The Thursday Murder Club,” his first film since 2020’s “The Christmas Chronicles 2.” Katy Brand and Suzanne Heathcote pen the film’s script. Producers on the film include Jennifer Todd and Columbus. Executive producers include Osman, Jo Burn, Eleanor Columbus, Holly Bario, and Jeb Brody. “The Thursday Murder Club” is a Netflix and Amblin Entertainment co-production.
“The Thursday Murder Club” premieres on Netflix on August 28. Watch a trailer for the film below.
