Henry Cavill’s Final Journey In The Netflix’s Fantasy Series Begins In June

Apr 25, 2023

Last year, fans of “The Witcher” series from Netflix were shocked to learn that the show’s lead Henry Cavill would be moving on and exiting the fantasy streaming project. Instead of returning for a fourth season, the British actor would be handing over his sword to “Hunger Games” alumni Liam Hemsworth and focusing on film work like the recently wrapped Guy Ritchie-directed WWII-era British commando flick “Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.” Now, the upcoming third season of “The Witcher” will be the final outing of Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, the show’s main character that goes around hunting/killing monsters for money

It’ll be interesting to see how the Netflix audience will react to Hemsworth in the role, when season four comes around, and if they’ll accept someone replacing Cavill given he was the main face of the show.

“As a ‘Witcher’ fan I’m over the moon about the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia. Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt, and I’m honored that he’s handing me the reins and allowing me to take up the White Wolf’s blades for the next chapter of his adventure. Henry, I’ve been a fan of yours for years and was inspired by what you brought to this beloved character. I may have some big boots to fill, but I’m truly excited to be stepping into The Witcher world,” Hemsworth said of the casting change-up in an official statement back in October.

But before Hemsworth gets the chance to take over the series, we still have one more season of Cavill in the wig. And as seen in the new teaser for Season 3, it looks like fans of the series are going to be happy when the show returns. Here’s the synopsis:

Based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s best-selling book series, the show follows Geralt as he travels the Continent fighting anything and everything that goes bump in the night, from ghouls to bruxas and more. Along the way, he forms an unlikely family with the powerful sorceress Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) and Cintran princess Ciri (Freya Allan) as they evade the mages, monarchs and monsters who seek to capture Ciri.

“The Witcher” returns in two parts this year. The first half of the season will arrive on June 29, followed by the last few episodes of Season 3 on July 27. You can watch the teaser below:
