Henry Cavill’s Superman Trends in Wake of Divisive DCU Reboot Clip
Feb 6, 2025
James Gunn’s Superman
reboot is all set to take flight this year…but some fans just cannot let go of the past. While those still attached to the wildly divisive SnyderVerse have had this year’s Superman in their crosshairs since it was announced, others simply wish that Henry Cavill
had been given another chance at playing the Man of Steel. And it seems that Cavill fans have taken to X/Twitter to air their grievances as #HenryCavillSuperman is now trending in the wake of the latest, and sadly somewhat maligned, footage of David Corenswet’s Superman.
“The real & only man of steel #HenryCavillSuperman,” says @bekoumovies, while @Brandon Hero Guy Robinson adds, “Ya’ll took Cavill’s Superman for granted smh” alongside an image of Corenswet’s and Cavill’s respective Supermen mid-flight. The footage that has caused this hullaballoo among Superman fans was released earlier this week, with many paying close (maybe too close?) attention to the final moments in which Superman performs a barrel roll as the camera takes a fisheye lens look at his face.
For some, this slightly odd-looking image is a demonstration of a lesser adaptation on the horizon. “James Gunn managed to mess it up again. He couldn’t just follow the blueprint set out by Zack Snyder and the Wachowskis. He’s following the wrong blueprints,” said @SamuEl_KentMan alongside images of Marvel’s Adam Warlock and DC’s Black Adam from a similar angle. Of course, these reactions ignore any images of Cavill’s Man of Steel looking equally awkward…
Perhaps We Should Give the ‘Superman’ Reboot a Chance?
Several fans, meanwhile, have started a slogan-based campaign, which finds them stating their name followed by “this looks like a Superman to me” with an image or clip of Henry Cavill’s Superman attached. Many are simply disappointed that Man of Steel 2 never materialized, with @TheCurlyRay saying, “Man of Steel is the film that made me a Superman fan. Henry Cavill is this generations Superman #HenryCavillSuperman.”
Unfortunately, the footage has opened the floodgates for those who are hoping that James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU will fail before it’s even begun, with many still hoping that the SnyderVerse will be restored or sold to Netflix. Outcomes which are extraordinarily unlikely.
