While the DC Comics cinematic universe got a reset, “Peacemaker” and “Creature Commandos” (gave us our first glimpse of their new Batman) have allowed Gunn to keep a handful of characters from “The Suicide Squad” as they attempt to relaunch with a new DCU as things like “Superman” and “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” are coming to the big screen.
We’re still waiting to see if other characters like Idris Elba‘s Bloodsport or Margot Robbie‘s Harley Quinn will be making returns to the greater DCU or simply be replaced with new actors. Then again, Jason Momoa was hired to portray Lobo in “Supergirl” after playing Aquaman, and Nathan Fillion (who had a brief role as T.D.K.) has scored a second DC role playing Guy Gardiner.
“Peacemaker” and “Creature Commandos” won’t be the only DCU-centric series coming soon as HBO‘s “Lanterns” (currently in production) will bring together new live-action versions of fan-favorite “Green Lantern” heroes Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) and John Stewart (Aaron Pierre), alongside bringing back Fillion‘s prickly Guy Gardiner, who will first appear in “Superman” this July. According to Gunn, “Lanterns” is poised to be ready sometime in the summer of 2026.
A “Waller” spinoff series led by Viola Davis as Amanda Waller had been previously in the works but has been placed on the backburner.
Max‘s official logline for the show:
“Peacemaker” explores the story of a vainglorious man who believes in peace at any cost, no matter how many people he has to kill to get it.
