Jelly Roll, Lainey Wilson, Valerie June in New Super Bowl Ad – The Hollywood Reporter

Feb 10, 2024

Musicians Jelly Roll, Lainey Wilson and Valerie June are heading to the Super Bowl — in a new ad for the nonprofit organization Power to the Patients.

The performers appear in a new spot that raises awareness about the health care crisis in America and pushes for officials to be more transparent about the cost of health care. In the commercial, the singers criticize hospitals and insurance companies for robbing patients, many of whom have dealt with medical debt.

“Hospitals and insurance companies all around the United States are stealing our future by looting every patient, worker, employer and family across the country,” Jelly Roll, known for hits like “Need a Favor” and “Save Me,” said in a statement.

Wilson, who won her first Grammy last week, added: “American citizens in need of care are afraid to enter a hospital.”

Power to the Patients, which was founded in 2021, says the goal of the commercial “is to force hospitals and insurance companies around the country to publicize actual prices for their services and procedures in advance instead of billing patients after the fact.”

Last month Jelly Roll, Fat Joe and Wyclef Jean joined Power to the Patients in Washington, D.C., to raise awareness about the national issue in front of roughly 500 congressional leaders and government officials. The nonprofit partnered with hip-hop heavyweights like Fat Joe, Rick Ross, Busta Rhymes, Method Man, French Montana and Chuck D last year to unveil a spot that came as the House of Representatives voted on a historic health care price transparency bill.
