, returning to work after his severe accident.

It has been over a year since Jeremy Renner’s unfortunate snow-plow incident left the MCU star with 38 broken bones and a punctured lung. Despite the actor already returning to the set for Season 3 of the hit show Mayor of Kingstown, Renner has admitted that his recovery hadn’t been as fast as he’d hoped, and he felt “over-worked” during production. Speaking to L.A. Times, the actor recalled his exhaustion during shooting, just a year after the accident left him hospitalized, and unable to walk for 3 months. The actor started the interview by saying that he still thinks about the accident, saying, “I relive it every night. It’s in my visions. It’s in my dreams and my waking thoughts.”

Renner then went on to discuss the first weeks back on set for Mayor of Kingstown. Renner leads the show (with a cast that also includes Emma Laird, Natasha Marc, Nichole Calicia, Kyle Chandler, and Aidan Gillen), as the head of the McLusky family, the town’s mediators between criminals and the justice system. Renner returned to set “on the anniversary of my death” (the day of his accident) and found it incredibly difficult returning. The actor described his physical exhaustion during shooting, saying:

“They go, ‘And action!’ And I was out. We realized they worked me too hard, too many hours, too many days in a row.”

While the old saying goes ‘mind over body’, Renner learned the hard way that sometimes physical recovery is a game of patience, and that the body can’t always be forced to keep up with the mind. Renner continued:

“What I’m willing to do is everything, but what I’m able to do is a different thing.”

Mayor of Kingstown
Season 3 is currently scheduled to return on June 2, 2023, on Paramount+.

Jeremy Renner Is Always Open for an MCU Return
Hawkeye Release Date November 24, 2021

Alongside being a two-time Oscar nominated actor (The Hurt Locker and The Town), Renner is perhaps best known for his long-running role as Hawkeye in the MCU. Renner debuted as the character in Kenneth Branagh’s Thor in 2011. Since then, Renner has reprised the role seven times on the big screen, as well as leading his own Disney+ series, aptly titled Hawkeye – alongside Hailee Steinfeld.

While Renner isn’t currently slated to make a return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the actor said he is always willing to play Clint Barton/Hawkeye again. Speaking previously to Entertainment Tonight, Renner said, “I’m always game [for returning to the MCU].” The actor then said how long-time MCU cast mates were incredibly supportive during his recovery following the accident. Renner continued:

“I’m gonna be strong enough, that’s for sure. I’ll be ready. All those guys come to my bedside and they’ve been with me all along through this recovery, so… if they want me, they could have me. It would be something.”

Fans are hoping for Renner to return alongside Steinfeld for a second season of the hit series Hawkeye. Season 1 was seen as a passing of the torch moment between Renner’s Clint Barton, and Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop. However, Barton could easily return for the second season.

All of Jeremy Renner’s MCU appearances are available to stream on Disney+.
