Jeremy Renner’s Snowplow Accident Was the Result of Him Attempting to Save His Nephew
Apr 6, 2023
As it would turn out, Jeremy Renner’s heroic ways extend past the skilled marksman Hawkeye who he portrays in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Since the beginning of the new year, Renner has received surgical treatment and begun therapy for injuries sustained in a freak snowplow accident. On Tuesday, CNN obtained the Nevada sheriff department latest incident report which states that Renner was pulled under the snow tractor and crushed after an attempt to save his nephew from being hit by the vehicle.
The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office states that Renner was using the snow tractor to tow his nephew’s truck from his driveway due to significant snowfall in the area before circumstances took a grisly turn. “The Pistenbully snow groomer began sliding causing Renner to exit the vehicle without setting the emergency brake,” the report concluded.

Renner quickly realized the Pistenbully was heading directly towards his nephew after getting off the snowplow, which was already heading downhill. “He feared the Pistenbully was going to hit (his nephew), so he decided to attempt to stop or divert the Pistenbully,” the report continued. In a heroic effort to save his nephew from injury, he attempted to re-enter the snow tractor’s cab by climbing onto its moving track. The move resulted in Renner being immediately pulled under the vehicle where he sustained multiple injuries from 30 broken bones to a collapsed chest. Renner’s nephew assisted with aid until the paramedics’ arrival.
The Pistenbully snowcat was impounded by police as part of the investigation to determine the cause of how the accident occurred since the plow includes comprehensive safety measures to prevent mishaps. The investigation was used to determine if the incident was a result of machine or human error. “Although the Pistenbully had some mechanical issues, it is believed based on our mechanical inspection that the parking brake would keep the Pistenbully from moving forward.”
Though Renner didn’t engage the emergency brake when the vehicle began to slide, the inspection additionally revealed the brake light indicator inside the snowplow was nonfunctional, noting that “mechanical issues may have been a factor in this accident.” The incident report also ruled out impairment as a potential factor.
