John Wick 4 Fans Have Nonstop High Praise For Donnie Yen’s Caine

Warning: Some SPOILERS lie ahead for John Wick: Chapter 4!
Following his franchise debut in the new film, John Wick: Chapter 4 fans have nonstop praise for Donnie Yen’s Caine. The action genre veteran is one of many stars making their first appearances in the John Wick franchise with the latest installment, starring alongside Bill Skarsgård as the villainous Marquis de Gramont, Hiroyuki Sanada as Osaka Continental manager Shimazu Koji, Rina Sawayama as his daughter Akira and Shamier Anderson as bounty hunter Mr. Nobody, among others. Caine spends most of John Wick: Chapter 4 reluctantly hunting the eponymous assassin to protect his daughter from the High Table.
This past weekend saw the long-awaited arrival of John Wick: Chapter 4, which introduced a number of new faces to the action franchise. One of the more notable was that of Donnie Yen’s Caine, whom many fans have taken to social media to share an outpour of love for and calling to see more of him in the future. See some of the fan reactions below:
Why Audiences Are Loving John Wick 4’s Caine
The announcement that Yen would be joining the cast of John Wick: Chapter 4 was met with immediate enthusiasm from fans of the actor/director given his proficiency in martial arts seen in the Ip Man franchise. The marketing smartly kept Yen’s allegiances a secret in the film, briefly showing him facing off against Sanada’s previously unknown character, as well as a variety of goons attacking Wick, leading some to believe he may be an ally for Reeves’ protagonist.

Though the majority of the film saw the two pitted against one another, Yen’s turn as Caine in John Wick: Chapter 4 scored rave reviews from both critics and fans for being one of the most nuanced rival characters to Wick yet. Though Mark Dacascos’ Zero held a reverence for Wick in the prior film, he still found the idea of killing Reeves a treat for the bragging rights that would come from it. Caine, on the other hand, proved largely reluctant in his duties, only doing so in order to keep his daughter alive. While John Wick dies as a result of their duel, they essentially end the film as friends and co-conspirators against the Marquis.
In addition to the skillful action expected of Yen, John Wick: Chapter 4 fans are also in love with Caine for his sardonic sense of humor on display throughout the film. Whether stopping for a snack in the midst of a shootout, incorporating some slapstick into his choreography or bluntly telling the true villain off with a perfect two-word delivery, Yen’s range has clearly impressed American audiences who may not have already been aware of him from the Ip Man films and as Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’s Chirrut Îmwe.
