Jonathan Tropper Gives Explosive Update on Shawn Levy’s ‘Star Wars’ Movie
Apr 11, 2025
Out of all the Star Wars projects that have been announced in recent memory, Shawn Levy’s mystery project is the most intriguing. With credits like Deadpool & Wolverine, Stranger Things, All We Imagine as Light, Levy has carved a niche for himself that is supported by fan favor and critics’ approval. So fans were excited when it was announced that he’d be helming a project, and things got even more interesting with Ryan Gosling joining the Galaxy Far, Far Away. While details on the project have been scarce, writer Jonathan Tropper revealed that the film will be dropping sooner than anticipated.
“I’m really not going to be able to talk about this,” Tropper said in a new interview, before he divulged: “So yeah, you know, we’re still working on it. Yeah, it’s our fourth project together. It’s the first one since The Adam Project.'” Trooper and Levy have worked on three projects previously, including the 2014 family drama This Is Where I Leave You and the Mark Raso-directed Netflix feature Kodachrome. Trooper shared excitement about working on the project, adding:
“I am [excited] too. I hope it’s on the way sooner than you think.”
Shawn Levy’s Movie Will Have New Characters
While the plot details are not available, Star Wars vet Kathleen Kennedy (who isn’t retiring anytime soon) previously revealed the timeline it’s set in and what we can expect. “Shawn’s is a standalone Star Wars story that’ll take place post 9, maybe five or six years out. And Mandalorian really stands on its own because there, we’re dealing with a whole other era in the New Republic. We have other development going on in that space as well,” she said.
While casting details are being kept tightly under wraps, fans can expect to see some familiar faces and, hopefully, other frequent collaborators of Levy in the upcoming film. Kennedy also revealed that the cast will be a mixed bag of some legacy characters and many new ones. “So that’s the space that we’re pretty much focused on right at the moment, because obviously with Mandalorian we have a pretty good sense of where that’s going. And with this, it’s all pretty much new characters. We may bring some of the characters back from the sequel saga, but pretty much new characters.”
No release date has been announced for Shawn Levy’s Star Wars movie yet. Stay tuned to Collider for more such updates from the Galaxy Far, Far Away.
