Jordan Peele’s Next Movie Loses Bizarre Christmas 2024 Release Date
Dec 23, 2023
Summary
Jordan Peele’s next movie has been pulled from Universal’s 2024 release calendar due to the recently concluded SAG-AFTRA and Writers Guild of America strikes. Scheduling conflicts with big-name actors may have contributed to the delay of Peele’s next movie as productions resume. Peele’s involvement in a collaboration with Hideo Kojima on the game OD may also be a factor in the delay of his next movie.
Though anticipation is high for his return to the director’s chair, Jordan Peele’s next movie has been pulled from Universal’s 2024 release calendar. Peele has enjoyed widespread acclaim since making his directorial debut with the 2017 horror-thriller Get Out, having brought home the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. He’s since continued his relationship with Universal for his subsequent directing projects, Us and Nope, with a fourth untitled movie initially set for a Christmas 2024 release.
Entertainment Weekly has now brought word, however, that Peele’s untitled fourth directorial movie has been pulled from its bizarre Christmas 2024 release date. Though the studio itself has yet to announce the decision, sources report that the move stemmed from the recently concluded SAG-AFTRA and Writers Guild of America strikes. At the time of writing, no new release date has been set for the movie.
Why Peele’s Next Movie Has Been Delayed
The indication that the delay of Peele’s next movie stems from the recent SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes may prove surprising to some, given the latter concluded in October 2023 while the former followed suit in early December. However, given the director has enjoyed a streak of big-name actors making up the ensemble casts of his movies, it does seem possible that those he was initially in talks with have encountered scheduling conflicts as various productions look to resume right away.
There are a number of other non-reported reasons why Peele’s next movie has found itself delayed to an unconfirmed release date. It was recently announced at the 2023 Game Awards that he and Hideo Kojima, creator of the Metal Gear franchise, would be collaborating with one another on the latter’s new game, OD, along with Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves star Sophia Lillis, Euphoria’s Hunter Schafer and Hunters’ Udo Kier. Unlike Death Stranding, in which acclaimed directors Guillermo del Toro and Nicolas Winding Refn appeared as supporting characters, Peele appears to be involved in the actual development and world-building of the mystery title.
Kojima has teased other “legends” being involved in the development of OD, referring to the creative group as “The Avengers”.
Though no stranger to spreading his attention across multiple projects at once, having produced and co-written a number of movies while in the midst of directing his own, Jordan Peele’s involvement in OD may also have something to do with his next movie’s delay. Given the industry is still in the midst of bouncing back from the recent WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, it seems likely that after the New Year, he and his creative team will properly set a schedule of when to begin filming the mystery project, though whether it looks to keep the same intriguing Christmas release date pushed to 2025 remains unclear.
