Justin Simien Says He “Can’t Wait To See It” In Response To News About Donald Glover Replacing Him As Writer
Jul 31, 2023
Justin Simien is having a busy weekend. Not only did his most recent feature film, the big-budget “Haunted Mansion” film from Disney, debut in theaters, but there was also news that he was being replaced by Donald And Stephen Glover as writers of the “Lando” series coming to Disney+. Well, in regards to that second bit of news, apparently the writer-director found out at the same time as everyone else that the Glover brothers were taking over “Lando,” but he’s okay with it.

In an Instagram story, Justin Simien commented on the news that he was being replaced by Donald and Stephen Glover for the “Lando” series coming to Disney+ in the future. He shared a screengrab of the news item and said, “This is me finding out rn.” But then he shared more detailed thoughts later.
“Donald is a national treasure,” Simien wrote. “Glad he and Stephen get to carry the character forward in their own way. Can’t wait to see it. Rooting for everybody Black.”

As mentioned, the news came over the past few days that Simien was being replaced by the Glovers. While we don’t know much about the plans for “Lando,” Glover is set to reprise his role as the title character, who he first played in ‘Solo’ several years ago. The project has been in development for years and is seemingly still working out the kinks. It’s unclear how involved Simien has been on the day-to-day regarding “Lando.” He very well could have finished his work on the series a while ago and isn’t really in the loop anymore.
Regardless, it’s clear Simien is excited to see the series and is perfectly happy to see the Glovers take over the writing duties. “Lando” currently doesn’t have a scheduled release date.
