Kevin Feige Confirms Vision’s Return to the MCU
Aug 5, 2024
It has been three years since fans last saw Vision in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but Kevin Feige has confirmed that the character will return. Originally titled Vision Quest, the series was announced in October 2022 and is said to pick up with the rogue Vision based on the all-white variant that was last seen in WandaVision. Jac Schaeffer was the original head writer for the series but vacated the role to focus on Agatha All Along, while Star Trek: Picard’s Terry Matalas was brought on in May 2024 to serve as the new showrunner.
Speaking with Inverse, Feige discussed the upcoming Vision series, which may or may not still have the Vision Quest title. Feige said it was after watching Star Trek: Picard Season 3 that he wanted to hire Matalas to guide the upcoming Vision series with Paul Bettany, who is expected to reprise his role. While Matalas has plenty of credits that make him an appealing pick for the MCU, having also served as the showrunner for 12 Monkeys and written for series like MacGyver and Nikita, it was Star Trek: Picard that won Feige over. Feige said:
“That’s how I got to know him. It was from his amazing [work on
Picard
Season 3. I said: This is incredible. I don’t know how this exists. Let me find the person who made this.”
Vision’s Place in the Multiverse Saga
No release date has been confirmed for Vision, but the Inverse piece speculates it will be released sometime in 2026. It will be interesting to see if the series airs before or after Avengers: Doomsday, with many fans speculating that the film will end with Doctor Doom reforging the Multiverse into Battleworld. If Vision does air in 2026, that means it will be arriving five years after WandaVision, continuing a recent trend of MCU projects leaving plot threads dangling for longer than normal, like the four-year gap between Eternals and Captain America: Brave New World explaining Tiamut, or the fact that it has been three years and no Shang-Chi sequel has been announced.

Marvel Studios saved San Diego Comic-Con for its big film announcements, like Fantastic Four: First Steps and Robert Downey Jr. returning to the MCU as Doctor Doom for Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. D23, Disney’s fan expo, is when Marvel Studios is expected to make its big television announcements for projects like Agatha: All Along, Daredevil: Born Again, and Ironheart. While the Vision series is some time away, there is a chance some news about it might be announced at D23, which runs between August 9 and August 11 this year. While fans have been speculating about which Marvel projects might have been canceled, it is clear that Vision is still on track within Marvel Studios.
