We spoke to actor Bryan Greenberg as his new conspiracy thriller Emperor of Ocean Park debuts on MGM+. It’s a juicy legal series set in modern-day America, which sees the former star of HBO’s How to Make It in America brushing shoulders with Oscar winner Forest Whitaker, who headlines their new show as fictional Judge Oliver Garland. Greenberg has kept busy with another hot-topic project: a Suits spinoff that will also star Stephen Amell, who we interviewed earlier this year.

“I’m definitely not ready to talk about that until we officially get greenlit, but [making the pilot that NBC ordered] was an amazing experience,” Greenberg told MovieWeb about Suits: LA. “I love to work with Stephen, I love the whole cast, the crew, and I think the script’s great, and I’m hearing good things. But there’s still a long time, and I don’t want to go there before if there’s nowhere to go to.”

Greenberg will star as Rick Dodsen, the protégé to Stephen Amell’s character, Ted Black, who himself was a former federal prosecutor from New York to begin a private firm in Los Angeles after his life fell apart.

In the meantime, Greenberg can be spotted sharing some juicy scenes opposite Whitaker in Emperor of Ocean Park, playing Howard, the husband of journalist Mariah (played by Tiffany Mack), the daughter of Judge Oliver. “I’ve been very fortunate to work with some great actors in my career,” says Greenberg. “And it’s always exciting, like, the day of when you see your name on the call sheet with them. And you’re like, ‘OK, what’s this going to be like,’ you know? And I try not to expect or project anything on that.” However, he added:

But it is such a relief to work with someone like Forest, who is everything you want him to be. You want him to be great, and he is great. You want him to be nice, and he’s nice. And it’s just everything you would hope for.

Greenberg also shared about creating the “power couple” dynamic opposite Mack in a unique project like Emperor of Ocean Park, which leans on complicated relationships like theirs and explores them through time jumps. “It was a true pleasure to flesh out their relationship and their characters. And to find them back in time and see their origin story was really interesting and informative,” explained Greenberg, who added:

“And I just love this relationship of two real forces of nature, you know, coming together…
a true power couple
. And it’s just like, ‘But how does that dynamic work when they’re together, alone in a room?’ And, you know, they can’t both be alphas in that moment, you know? So it turns out Howard’s not the alpha in the home, which I don’t think is a very uncommon dynamic, if anyone’s been married out there.”
