Lance Bass Opens Up About Diabetes Diagnosis During Pandemic

Mar 6, 2024

Lance Bass says he developed diabetes during the COVID-19 pandemic and is working on managing his condition.

“I’m definitely conscious of my eating now,” the NSYNC member told People magazine while promoting his partnership with allergy medicine Allegra. “I’m learning what you can eat, when you can eat, when you take your insulin — and all that has just been really hard lately.”

Bass noted that, besides monitoring his diet, he has also prioritized exercising to handle his diabetes. “The older I get, the more I know I have to take care of my body. So I work out when I can,” he said. “Exercising is so key right now, but it’s hard for me because of my schedule to get to a gym. So I do have a nice setup at my house and I get 15 minutes here, 20 minutes there.”

Bass had previously touched on his diabetes diagnosis in a November 2023 interview with Eating Well. At the time, he said, “I’ve developed diabetes in my later life. So I’m really trying to find the things that work for me that my body can handle. What I’ve also learned is to drink lots and lots of water, that’s one thing I just never understood how healthy that is for you. My nutritionist was finally like, no, you have to. Now that I’ve bumped up my water, I just feel better and it’s so much healthier.”

He also acknowledged his condition in the caption of an Instagram post in June 2023.

Nearly two years ago, Bass shared he was diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis in 2017. “It definitely started in my shoulders and then in my knees,” he told People then. “And again, to me, that was just such a sign of dancer pain, so I just thought it was completely normal, totally ignoring the signs.”

Bass has been in the spotlight in recent months as NSYNC has reunited on a number of projects including a high-profile VMAs appearance and the songs “Better Place” for Trolls Band Together and “Paradise,” which is featured on Justin Timberlake’s upcoming album Everything I Thought It Was.
