Adam Warlock won’t be a bad guy, but he won’t be a good guy either when he makes his debut in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

The latest look at Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 reveals Adam Warlock in all his glory, with the Sovereign’s champion looking determinedly on a mission to destroy Peter Quill and his space-adventuring family. The latest image from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which comes courtesy of Empire, offers another look at The Maze Runner and Dopesick star Will Poulter in his MCU debut. And the actor has come a long way since starring as the slight and scrawny Kenny in 2013’s We’re the Millers. Check out the latest look at Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 below.
Alongside the image, returning director James Gunn has teased how Adam Warlock will play into proceedings. And while he won’t be a bad guy, he won’t necessarily be a good guy either.

“It’s kind of more complicated than that. But he’s definitely not a good guy. What we’re seeing is the infant form of Warlock, newly out of the cocoon, and he does not understand life very well. He’s basically a baby.”
Created for Marvel Comics by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby before being significantly developed by Roy Thomas and Jim Starlin, Marvel fans have been waiting for Adam Warlock to enter the MCU fray for some time. First teased in a post-credits scene at the end of 2017’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, before being revealed in the recent trailer, Adam Warlock is a vastly powerful artificial being who possesses a cavalcade of superpowers, including superhuman strength, speed, agility, durability, flight, and energy and matter manipulation.

While Gunn refers to Adam as “a baby,” he’s clearly not a baby you would want to mess with. The casting of Will Poulter, who had largely become known for his scrawny frame and comic timing, came as a surprise to many, with Gunn explaining why he felt Poulter was the perfect choice. Despite what some fans had suggested…
“People online were saying, ‘Oh, Tom Cruise should be Adam Warlock.’ I wanted somebody who was youthful, and I wanted the person who had the dramatic chops and the comedic chops, not only for this movie but for what Marvel will use Adam Warlock for in the future. He could become this really important character.”
With Poulter standing at an imposing 6’3’’ the actor needed to add bulk – a superhero’s worth of bulk – to portray Adam Warlock accurately. Hitting the gym has clearly had the desired effect, with the actor required to go through a series of different diets at the same time in order to be able to believably take on Drax and the rest of the Guardians. Though he worked hard, Poulter has always maintained that “the most important thing is that your mental and physical health has to be number one, and the aesthetic goals have to be secondary.”
Starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Will Poulter, Elizabeth Debicki, Sylvester Stallone, Sean Gunn, Maria Bakalova, and Chukwudi Iwuji, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 begins with Peter Quill still reeling from the loss of Gamora, who must rally his team to defend the universe and protect one of their own. A mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is scheduled to be released on May 5, 2023.
