Quan couldn’t keep a TVA guidebook prop from
Loki
Season 2 due to Marvel’s strict prop policy.
Ke Huy Quan’s sentimental act with the prop led to disappointment, but later got a unique Marvel gift.
After winning an Oscar, Quan received a temp pad and tube prop from his work on Marvel’s show.
Loki star Ke Huy Quan recently revealed that he was unable to keep a prop he wanted from the show’s second season. The Marvel Universe, it seems, does not allow all treasures to be kept, at least not by Quan. He shared this disappointing experience, showing his personal attachment to a prop from the set.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Quan expressed his dismay when Marvel prevented him from taking a prop home—a TVA guidebook that his character was credited with authoring within the show. His attachment to the prop stemmed naturally, considering his character’s close connection with the item. Quan recounted:
So Ouroboros wrote the TVA guidebook, right? When we were shooting, there were a lot of copies of that book on set. And the last week of our shoot, I was thinking that since my character wrote the TVA guidebook, I should have a copy, so I took a copy back to my trailer.
Quan’s sentimental act was quickly noticed. The alert and meticulous prop master approached Quan when they realized an item was missing from the inventory. Quan remembered the encounter. When Quan inquired if he could keep the guidebook, the answer was a firm no. The reason? Marvel meticulously accounts for each prop on set, leaving no room for personal keepsakes, however significant they may seem to the actors.

““Oh my god, Ke, we have one copy missing. Do you happen to have it?” He has this worried face and I couldn’t lie to him. I asked him, can I keep it? And he said, “No, you can’t keep it.” Because at the end of the day, they always count every single prop that they have on set. Marvel was very strict about all the props. So I was really disappointed.”
Ke Huy Quan’s Oscar Win Eventually Led to a Special Marvel Gift
Marvel Studios
However, Marvel’s Kevin Feige gifted Ke Huy Quan a memorable token following Quan’s Oscar win for Best Supporting Actor. After stepping away from acting for nearly two decades, the actor’s career was reignited with his role in 2022’s Everything Everywhere All At Once.
His return was nothing short of spectacular, punctuated by an Academy Award win that spotlighted his undeniable talent and the emotional depth he brought to his character. His acceptance speech at the 2023 Oscars was not only inspirational but also infused with the charm that has become synonymous with Quan’s public persona.
It was after this high-profile accolade that Feige and the Marvel team decided to present Quan with a unique gift—a temp pad and a tube from the ‘Repairs & Advancement’ department, both props from his work on Marvel’s series. Reflecting on this, Quan humorously remarked:
So I guess all it takes is to win an Oscar to get a prop from a Marvel project!

Quan Sets His Sights on Exploring O.B.’s Story and the Time Variance Authority
Quan reflected on his initial reaction about his inclusion in the MCU. He recounted the unforgettable moment when Kevin Feige called to invite him into Marvel. “I could not believe when I got that call from Kevin Feige, when he invited me to join the MCU. I was so excited, and I couldn’t wait to play him,” said Quan.
The actor also expressed strong hopes for his character’s future, eagerly anticipating further development of O.B. within the expansive MCU. Quan is particularly keen on exploring more about the Time Variance Authority (T.V.A.) and the depth of O.B.’s knowledge.
“In terms of Ouroboros, man, fingers crossed that we get to see more of him in either an MCU movie or, hopefully, more in the TVA. It’s such a vast universe. We only get to see a little bit of the TVA, so hopefully we’ll get to see more of that. Also, Ouroboros has so much knowledge, so I would love to see more of him and more of his contributions to that universe.”
