Longlegs was met with positive reviews upon its release earlier this year and became a horror box office hit.

Longlegs’ Success Explained
Why The Nicolas Cage Horror Movie Was Such A Hit
Longlegs became a hyped horror release earlier this year due to its unnerving and mysterious marketing. The promotional materials made the wise choice to avoid showing Cage in character, and many trailers made it challenging to understand what the film was actually about beyond its basic serial killer premise. The film was also met with glowing reactions on social media, and some of these reactions were then ultimately used to sell the film.
Specific figures for Longlegs’ budget have not been revealed, but the film is believed to have been made for less than $10 million. To date, Perkins’ horror movie has made $97.8 million at the worldwide box office, making it one of 2024’s big success stories. As for the audience response to the film, it’s been generally positive, but movie-goers don’t seem to be loving the film as much as critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, Longlegs has a lukewarm 60% audience score (now called the Popcornmeter) and an 86% critics’ score.
This lower Popcornmeter score may not be representative of the general audience sentiment, however, as Longlegs enjoyed relatively low week-to-week drops at the box office, which generally comes from positive word-of-mouth. The marketing certainly did a lot of heavy lifting with the film, but the Longlegs ending has evidently kept people talking after the credits roll. After a long and successful run at the box office, it’s looking likely that Longlegs will continue to be a draw for audiences on home-viewing platforms later this week.
