Marvel star Dave Bautista has reiterated that his time as Guardians of the Galaxy member, Drax, is now over…but would consider returning to the MCU in a different, “deeper” role. In an interview with Gizmodo, Bautista, who played Drax throughout the MCU beginning with the first Guardians of the Galaxy back in 2014, said he “would answer the phone” if either Marvel or DC call, but would only agree to a role if it’s interesting enough.
“No, no. When I said that I was done, I was really just done with my journey as Drax. I still have a relationship with Marvel. I’ve seen Kevin Feige again, Lou [D’Esposito] as recently as two weeks ago. And they know that I would be up for a role. I love the universe—the superhero universe, I love it. I’m a fan. So Marvel or DC, if they call, I would answer the phone. And if the role makes sense, I’d be all over it. I just would like the opportunity to do a bigger role, a different role. Maybe a deeper role. I’d love to have the opportunity to play, like an ominous villain in the superhero universe. Yeah. But never. I’m not done with it. But my journey with Drax is over.”
Bautista last appeared as Drax in 2023’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which acts as an ending for this iteration of the titular team. The wrestler-turned-actor has also spoken many times about his respect for the craft and his desire to improve and learn, and with the first Guardians of the Galaxy being on his earliest roles, Bautista is clearly now looking for something more should he return to the realm of comic book movies.
Dave Bautista Returns to Arrakis in Dune 2
Dave Bautista will next return to the desert planet Arrakis in this month’s sci-fi epic sequel, Dune 2. Dune: Part Two will explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.
Directed by Denis Villeneuve and written by Villeneuve and Jon Spaihts, Dune 2 sees Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Dave Bautista, Stellan Skarsgård, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Charlotte Rampling, and Javier Bardem reprise their roles from the first movie.
2:03 Related Dune 2’s Dave Bautista Has a “Huge Man Crush” on One Costar Dave Bautista was in awe of many of his Dune 2 costars, but one person in particular stands out as his famous man crush.
The sequel will add several big names to the stellar cast list, including Florence Pugh (Oppenheimer), Christopher Walken (The Deer Hunter, Seven Psychopaths), Léa Seydoux (No Time to Die), Austin Butler (Elvis), Souheila Yacoub (Rise), and Tim Blake Nelson (The Ballad of Buster Scruggs).
Should Dave Bautista ever be tempted to return to the MCU or join the DCU, who would you like to see him play?
