Marvel Zombies Disney+ Release Date Revealed in Apparent MCU Leak

Oct 31, 2024

Halloween 2024 is almost over, but fans can look forward to next year’s holiday as Marvel Zombies will officially debut on Disney Plus. Marvel Zombies originated in the pages of Ultimate Fantastic Four before getting its own spin-off series starting in December 2005. It was written by The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman and drawn by Sean Phillips with iconic covers from Arthur Suydam. Marvel Zombies was the basis for What If…? Season 1, Episode 5, and the concept proved so popular Marvel Studios announced a spin-off series.

Now, thanks to an apparent leak (the footage has now been officially released and can be seen below), it has now been revealed that Marvel Zombies will debut on Disney+ in October 2025. It is unclear if Marvel meant to upload the trailer late Tuesday night or if they planned it before the finale of Agatha All Along, but the footage has revealed our first look at the 2025 Disney+ release schedule. With Marvel Zombies being dated after The Fantastic Four: First Steps, it will officially be part of Phase 6 of the MCU. It will air between the release of the Eyes of Wakanda animated series on August 6, 2024, and before Wonder Man in December 2025.

Marvel Zombies is already confirmed to be TV-MA and will consist of four episodes. Iman Vellani is already confirmed to be returning to voice Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel in the animated series. Marvel Zombies will emphasize characters introduced in Phase 4, particularly characters from Black Widow, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and Eternals, all of which debuted in 2021, the same year the “What If…Zombies” episode of What If…? aired.

This Is Halloween on Disney+

Marvel Zombies’ release date in October is perfect for the Halloween season. In 2022, Marvel Studios released Werewolf by Night as a Special Presentation and Halloween special, with a color rerelease coming in October 2023. Agatha All Along has been Disney+’s big Halloween event series for 2024, debuting on September 18, 2024, before concluding on Halloween Eve of October 30, 2024. With just four episodes, if Marvel goes for a weekly release format, Marvel Zombies could run through October.

The Marvel Zombies placement on the Marvel Disney+ schedules also suggests it could be critical to the future of the MCU. The series will debut seven months before Avengers: Doomsday and nearly two years before Avengers: Secret Wars, the two films being teased as the end of the Multiverse Saga. The Marvel Zombies are an important part of the 2015 Secret Wars comics, as they are a horde being held out in a wasteland alongside a legion of Ultron drones. There is a chance fans could see a live-action take on the Marvel Zombies in Avengers: Secret Wars as a whole host of characters and variants find themselves on the newly created Battleworld. Marvel Zombies will not only explore in detail a multiverse fan got a tease of years ago but it could also be brought to live-action in the near future.
