Marvel’s FANTASTIC FOUR Will Be a “Big Pillar of the MCU Going Forward” According to Kevin Feige — GeekTyrant

Feb 20, 2023

When Marvel Studios introduces the Fantastic Four to the MCU, it sounds like they are going to be a huge part of the franchise moving forward. We don’t know what Marvel is planning for its Fantastic Four movie, but in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Kevin Feige said that Marvel’s first family is going to be a big pillar of the future of the MCU. He said:“The only other one in terms of me personally and my 23-year history is the Fantastic Four. We sort of talked about mutants and that whole aspect to the Marvel world, but Fantastic Four is the foundation for everything that came after in the comics. There’s certainly been versions of it [on screen], but never inhabiting the storytelling of the MCU. And that’s something that is really exciting for us. People will start to hear more about that soon. We plan on that being a big pillar of the MCU going forward, just the way they’ve been in the comics for 50 or 60 years.”I was hoping that this would be the case. The Fantastic Four have always played a huge part in the Marvel universe in the comics, and I’m happy to hear that Marvel Studios will continue that in the MCU. But, there’s still very little information to share and we’re all waiting to see who will be cast in the movie and what the story will entail, but I hope that it’s set in the 1960s! Matt Shakman ( WandaVision) is directing the film, and he recently confirmed that cameras will be rolling in early 2024, meaning that the project still seems to be on track for its February 2025 release date. He also offered the following update:”It was just too hard to pass up, and to go back home to Marvel, a place that I worked on WandaVision at, with those people who are wonderful collaborators. It’s really a family there and to be able to go back and tackle something that I truly love, and they’re very similar in some ways: they both were launched in the ’60s at the same time, they’re both about optimism and looking to the stars and technology can solve everything and they’re about family too – the family you have, the family you make. So they’re aligned in many ways and speak to my heart and equally, so I’m excited to be working on Fantastic Four.”Marvel producer Stephen Broussard previously promised that the film will be a true celebration of the original source material from the comics:“I wouldn’t presume to know everything about that film; I’m not necessarily working on it. But one of the founding principles of Marvel, going back to Iron Man and the casting of Tony that I think has resonated through today, is to embrace the source material and these comics that have been around forever. They’re older than me, and I’m guessing they’re older than you too. They’ve been around for a while for a reason, [so we] lean into that.”Marvel Studios previously hired Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer to write the script. Fantastic Four arrives in theaters on February 14, 2025.
