Mary Marvel and Mary Bromfield to be played by One Actress
May 19, 2023
In the new DC film Shazam! Fury of the Gods, many unexpected changes will occur, which deviate from the previous film in the franchise titled Shazam! One of the most significant differences is that Mary Bromfield and her alter ego, Mary Marvel, will be played by one and not two actresses, making her the only hero in Shazam! Fury of the Gods to not have an alternate actress/actor. According to CBR, the film’s director David F. Sandberg stated that the character’s transformation will be aided by makeup to show a distinction between the two versions of Mary.
Actress Grace Caroline Currey plays Mary Bromfield and Mary Marvel. Arguably one of the most unique and complex of the DC Comics canon, Mary Marvel is a costumed vigilante and a member of the Marvel Family, a team of heroes with whom Captain Marvel is linked to. She is the alter ego of Mary Bromfield (aka Batson), the protective and devoted elder sister of Captain Marvel’s alternate personality, Billy Batson. Mary receives the wizard Shazam’s power, just like her brother, and must use the wizard’s name to change into Mary Marvel. Alongside her brother and Captain Marvel JR, Mary fights the forces of evil.

Levi and Angel return in Fury of the Gods, where Billy Batson and his foster siblings must stop the Daughters of Atlas from using a weapon that could annihilate the universe. To defeat them, the Marvels must first go on a quest to make peace with the Gods.
