‘Maxxxine’s Ti West and Halsey Re-Team for Dark Comedy Series

Dec 11, 2024

Some people can just do it all, can’t they? MaXXXine actress and acclaimed singer/songwriter, Halsey, is adding screenwriter to her resume — and she’s re-teaming with the director of the aforementioned film, Ti West, to turn it all into a television show. The series, currently titled “Bloodlust” is already under development at Amazon Prime Video, and is amassing quite a team of creative collaborators.
In an exclusive report from Variety, Halsey will serve as the series’ creator, writer, and executive producer. The series will be showrun by executive producer Mark Friedman, who’s previously worked on Severence, Wayward Pines, and Dispatches from Elsewhere, in addition to recent work on Dune: Prophecy (in a consulting producer capacity). Halsey’s manager, Anthony Li, will also executive produce the show.
Though details are mostly under wraps at the moment, it feels safe to assume that the dark comedy will have some interesting, and perhaps horrific, twists and turns up its sleeve — given the folks involved. West is set to direct the series, and will no doubt bring his horror-flecked sensibilities to the project. The two recently worked together on MaXXXine, the third film in his X trilogy starring Mia Goth, with Halsey playing the ill-fated role of Tabby Martin.
Who Are Halsey And Ti West?

In addition to performing in numerous (and quite cinematic, we might add) music videos, Halsey has also appeared as herself in Bradley Cooper’s remake of A Star is Born and the short-lived Showtime series Roadies. She’s also had roles in films such as Sing 2 and Teen Titans Go! To the Movies. Born Ashley Frangipane, as the singer Halsey, she has received numerous accolades and awards for her work, including three Billboard Music Awards, an American Music Award, and three Grammy Award nominations. Her 2021 album, If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power was produced by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross — members of the band Nine Inch Nails who’ve also won Oscar and Emmy Awards for their film and television scores (remember The Social Network? That was them).
Ti West may have blown up significantly over the past few years thanks to his films X, Pearl, and MaXXXine, but he has been working steadily — particularly in the horror space — since the early 2000s. His early credits include the films The Roost, Trigger Man, The House of the Devil, The Innkeepers, and The Sacrament. He also worked alongside Adam Wingard, Simon Barrett, David Bruckner, Joe Swanberg, Glenn McQuaid, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, and Chad Villella on the hit anthology horror film V/H/S, directing the segment called “Second Honeymoon.”

MaXXXine director has spilled his guts about horror and its lack of representation at the Oscars, Hollywood’s most important event.

Though there are no further details on the project out there at the time of this write-up, it feels safe to assume — given the aesthetics of the folks involved — that this dark comedy will have an edge to it. Perhaps even some magical and/or otherworldly events. Surrealism plays a large part in the artistry of all involved (based on the projects they’ve put out thus far), which feels like the perfect playground for someone as multi-talented as Halsey.

There is no release date yet set for Bloodlust.
