As Spider-Man
fans wait on tenterhooks (or should that be tenter-webs?) for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 4, the first plot details have finally been revealed. Jon Watts’ trilogy was rounded out with the world forgetting who Peter Parker was. Following the death of Aunt May, and with the Multiverse about to collapse, the three Peter Parkers and Doctor Strange return the Spider-Man villains to their home worlds, but not without a devastating consequence. Everyone, including Parker’s closest friends, forgot who he was.
Speaking to Deadline, producer Amy Pascal revealed how Spider-Man 4 will continue the story following No Way Home’s emotional ending. One of the most famous Spider-Man comics of all-time sees Peter Parker give up being Spider-Man, but the new movie is flipping the script.

“We have to deal with the fact that he decided he was going to give up being Peter Parker,” Pascal said. “And that he was going to focus on being Spider-Man because being Peter Parker was too hard. So that’s what the movie is about.”

The plot details give audiences a vague understanding of where the movie will go. Tom Holland will reprise the role of Peter Parker, with Shang-Chi’s Destin Daniel Cretton directing. It has not yet been confirmed whether Zendaya and Jacob Batalon will return. At the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Peter Parker bittersweetly lets his friends continue their lives with no memory of him. If the pair do appear in Spider-Man 4, expect Peter Parker to try and rekindle that forgotten friendship.
Fans are also speculating about the film’s villain. Following Venom: The Last Dance, fans want Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock to finally go toe-to-toe with Holland’s Spider-Man. Although, the upcoming Kraven the Hunter could tease a potential Spider-Man 4 tie-in, setting Kraven up as the next big bad.
Spider-Man Needs to Return to the Neighborhood

Nick Fury put it best in Spider-Man: Far From Home, “B*tch please, you’ve been to space.” Tom Holland’s tenure as Spider-Man has taken the character far beyond the reaches of his two predecessors (Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield). While the past iterations were content with being Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Men, Holland’s quickly became a full-blown Avenger, heading into outer space to fight Thanos. Fans are hoping that Spider-Man 4 will bring Peter Parker back to his NYC roots. It will be hard to rein in the scope of a Spider-Man movie considering what the character’s already been through, but fans generally love Spider-Man best when he’s fighting on home soil rather than tackling cosmic threats or the madness of the multiverse.
