Michelle Yeoh Stars In Netflix’s Prequel Series This Christmas

Dec 12, 2022

Before Henry Cavill returns as Geralt of Rivia for the final time in “The Witcher” Season 3 next year, Netflix has something else to tide fans over. Enter “The Witcher: Blood Origin,” a limited prequel series to the hit Netflix show, which dives deep into the lore of Andrzej Sapkowskis‘s book series.

So, what should fans expect from “Blood Origin”? Set 1200 years before “The Witcher,” the show will explore the ancient Elven civilization before its downfall, the creation of the first Witcher, and the events that lead up to the “Conjunction Of The Spheres.” And even more exciting: “Everything Everywhere All At Once” star Michelle Yeoh leads the prequel series’ ensemble cast. Yeoh plays the last member of a nomadic tribe of sword elves hunting down a lost relic of her people.
Joining Yeon for “Blood Origin” are Sophia Brown, Laurence O’Fuarain, Lenny Henry, Mirren Mack, Nathaniel Curtis, and Dylan Moran.  Jacob Collins-Levy, Lizzie Annis, Huw Novelli, and Francesca Mills also star.  Amy Murray, Zach Wyatt, and Aidan O’Callaghan round out the main cast.
Declan de Barra and Lauren Schmidt Hissirch, head writer and co-creator of “The Witcher,” serve as the showrunners of “Blood Origin.” De Barra also directs the series pilot and serves as co-executive producer. Also of note: “The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power” composer Bear McCreary pens music for the series.
So, for those who can’t wait for Season 3 of “The Witcher,” “The Witcher: Blood Origin” hits Netflix on Christmas Day, December 25. A stocking stuffer for fantasy fans, to be sure. Watch a trailer for the prequel series below.
