Mike Flanagan To Develop A New Series Based On Stephen King’s Classic Story

Oct 21, 2024

Mike Flanagan’s love of Stephen King is well documented. The filmmaker has already adapted a couple of King’s works (“Doctor Sleep” and “Gerald’s Game”), and it appears he’s not done there, as he’s adding “Carrie” to the mix.

According to Deadline, Mike Flanagan is set to develop a new eight-episode limited series adaptation of “Carrie” for Amazon Prime Video. For those unaware, “Carrie” tells the story of a teen girl with supernatural powers, who is often bullied at school. And if you’ve seen the various adaptations through the decades, you know what happens next.
As mentioned, Flanagan sure does love King. In addition to “Doctor Sleep” and “Gerald’s Game,” the filmmaker recently debuted his new King adaptation, “The Life of Chuck.” And not only that, he’s still working on a way to bring “Dark Tower” to TV. It’s gotten to the point where it would appear that Flanagan is King’s personal choice for any and all adaptations.

“Carrie” is no stranger to adaptation. Most people are familiar with the beloved 1976 film from filmmaker Brian De Palma. Years later, there was a sequel that was made that people didn’t really care for. And then a few years after that, there was a 2002 TV adaptation. The most recent attempt at bringing it to the big screen was 2013’s film adaptation that was directed by Kimberly Peirce. It really does make you wonder what Flanagan thinks he can bring to the project that no one has previously tried before.
It’s still too early to know when we might see “Carrie” on Prime Video.
