Netflix’s Dark Fantasy Series Returns For The Final Time In July
Apr 17, 2025
Bad news, “The Sandman” fans: the upcoming second season of the Netflix series will be its last. No surprise there, given the various sexual assault and misconduct allegations swirling around creator Neil Gaiman. But the news shouldn’t come as a surprise to fans of the DC comic. Netflix already revealed in January that there would be no further episodes after Season 2, and the streamer made that decision before filming for Season 2 even began.

Still, seeing how the new season fares amidst Gaiman’s controversies should be interesting. Season 1 of “The Sandman” was an all-around success for Netflix; will Season 2 fare well too, or suffer critically due to recent events? Fans of the series find out in July, when the new season premieres.
Here’s an official synopsis for “The Sandman” Season 2, courtesy of Netflix:
After a fateful reunion with his family, Dream of the Endless must face one impossible decision after another as he attempts to save himself, his kingdom, and the waking world from the epic fallout of his past misdeeds. To make amends, Dream must confront longtime friends and foes, gods, monsters, and mortals. But the path to forgiveness is full of unexpected twists and turns, and true absolution may cost Dream everything.
“The Sandman” Season 2 stars Tom Sturridge, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Mason Alexander Park, Donna Preston, Esmé Creed-Miles, Adrian Lester, Barry Sloane, and Patton Oswalt. Vivienne Acheampong, Gwendoline Christie, Jenna Coleman, Ferdinand Kingsley, Stephen Fry, Asim Chaudhry, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Razane Jammal, and Ruairi O’Connor also star. Freddie Fox, Clive Russell, Laurence O’Fuarain, Ann Skelly, Douglas Booth, Jack Gleeson, Indya Moore, and Steve Coogan round out the cast.
Allan Heinberg serves as showrunner on “The Sandman,” and executive produces the series with David S. Goyer and original creator Gaiman. Jamie Childs returns to direct in Season 2.
The final season of “The Sandman” premieres in two parts on Netflix: Volume 1 on July 3 (6 episodes) and Volume 2 on July 24 (5 episodes). Watch the new Date Announcement trailer for the series below.
