Netflix’s ‘The Four Seasons’ Debuts With a Rare Rotten Tomatoes Score

May 3, 2025

It’s been a long time since Tina Fey and Steve Carell shared the screen together, but the two comedy legends have finally been reunited in The Four Seasons, Netflix’s new comedy miniseries that just debuted with a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score. Based on the 1981 film and the 1984 series of the same name, this new adaptation features an all-star cast that also includes Will Forte, Colman Domingo, Alan Alda, and Kerri Kenney-Silver.
All eight episodes of The Four Seasons hit Netflix today, May 1, 2025, and so far, everyone seems to be loving the hit comedy that has a 100% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. “Fey’s remake is a comfort show that isn’t afraid to pull you out of your comfort zone a bit,” says David Opie of Digital Spy. Critic Anne Brodie noted in her review for What She Said that the series is “richly drawn and full of life and its ups and downs.” She adds:

“The lesson is that we must have friends to count on and be a good friend. Terrific, bumpy, challenging, funny and emotional.”

Set over the course of one year and four vacations, The Four Seasons tells the tale of three married couples whose decades-long friendship is tested when one of the couples divorces, complicating their tradition of quarterly weekend getaways. Nick Schager from The Daily Beast had nothing but good things to say about the series in his review, noting that there’s much more to the show than just a few laughs:

“Tackling the headaches of marriage with wit and warmth, it contends, persuasively, that the search for peace, contentment, and togetherness—and for who you are, what you want, and where you’re going—doesn’t end once the knot has been tied.”

Tina Fey and Steve Carell Became Best Friends Making ‘The Four Seasons’

Netflix

Though they starred as a married couple in Date Night, Carell and Fey never really became close friends while they were filming the 2010 comedy because, as Fey told People recently, they were “both very shy.” Working together again on The Four Seasons allowed them to reconnect after being through so much in their careers since then, that they are “actually all-the-way friends now,” according to the former SNL star.
That relationship gave them a certain level of comfort that translated well on screen to create what critic Sarah Knight Adamson calls a show that is the “exploration of long-term marriages and the various pitfalls that come with them.” Billed as a one-time deal that’s not set to return for a second season, Danielle Solzman from Solzy at the Movies notes that she “wouldn’t mind if we got to continue hanging out with this friend group” in the future. Ditto, Solzy.
Who knows, maybe if the show is a success, Netflix and Fey will revisit the idea of making another season, but for now, we’ll just have to be content with what we have. You can check out all eight episodes of The Four Seasons streaming now on Netflix, and if you want to relive all the fun of 2010’s Date Night, it’s available to rent or purchase on all VOD platforms.
