Home Movie News New Scream 6 Poster Is Chock Full Of Franchise Easter Eggs

A new poster for Scream VI forms a subway map comprised of stops named for the franchise’s dead characters while hiding clues about the new movie.

The latest poster for Scream VI is full of franchise easter eggs. The upcoming sequel to 2022’s Scream sees Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett return to the director’s chair, with James Vanderblit and Gary Busick returning to write the screenplay. Franchise alum Courteney Cox will reprise her role as Gale Weathers, with Hayden Panettiere returning as Kirby Reed for the first time since 2011’s Scream 4. They will be joined by Jenna Ortega, Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, Dermot Mulroney, Henry Czerny, Samara Weaving, and Willow’s Tony Revolori.

Now, the official Scream Twitter account has released a brand-new poster for Scream VI, drawing a subway map in the shape of the Ghostface mask. However, the poster has also revealed some major plot clues, with Kirby Reed’s stop being the only one on the map that is closed, and Sam Carpenter’s (Barrera) name being noticeably larger than the others. Aside from them, the names refer to Scream’s deceased characters, such as Billy Loomis, Tatum Riley, Dwight “Dewey” Riley, and Casey Becker, all of whom have their own stop. Each line corresponds to a different movie. Check out the poster below:

How Scream 6 Can Honor The Rest Of The Franchise

While Sidney Prescott will not be a part of the latest installment (and is notably not included on the poster, even if she is the most iconic protagonist of the franchise), Scream VI’s poster seems to tease that the movie will honor the rest of the Scream franchise. It will simultaneously phase out the legacy characters in favor of newer, younger protagonists. Gale Weathers is the only legacy character who has been a part of the franchise since the 1996 original to return after Neve Campbell announced she would not return as Prescott and David Arquette’s character Dewey passed away in the previous installment.

However, bringing back Kirby Reed from Scream 4 seems like a good idea to draw fans of that film into this installment, especially when two of the three legacy characters who helped shape the Scream franchise for what it is today will be absent. As of this writing, no one knows what Kirby’s role in Scream VI will be, but the poster hinting that her station is closed could very well mean that her character will suffer a terrible fate at the hands of the Ghostface killer and be the catalyst for the newer characters to start getting worried after they move from Woodsboro to New York City.

After returning to Woodsboro for Scream, the franchise will once again shift to a new setting for the sixth movie, which could prove helpful if it is trying to move away from the original characters. However, the character names found in the poster, which include even some of the “actors” from the fictional Stab movies, could mean that the killer is planning his next series of murders to be related in some capacity to every single installment that came before Scream VI. This could honor what made this franchise so special, with a blend of meta humor, gory kills, and colorful characters like those who defined the first Scream. Perhaps Scream VI will re-emphasize just what made this series one of the most beloved slashers of all time.
