New ‘Superman’ Footage Released for James Gunn DCU Film Ahead of Official Trailer

May 18, 2025

Update: DC Studios has unveiled a short teaser in anticipation of the official trailer for James Gunn’s Superman, which is set to release online this Wednesday. The brief footage shown today features David Corenswet’s Superman in action, fighting someone who seems like the super-powered Hammer of Boravia. Coincidentally, it seems the villain has similar powers to the Kryptonian hero, including laser vision. Nicholas Hoult also speaks as Lex Luthor, the primary antagonist of the DCU film.
You can check out the latest teaser below:

James Gunn has kept fans patiently waiting for the official Superman trailer for the past few months, but it seems like the wait is finally over. The latest preview for the upcoming DCU film will be released later this week, as revealed by a not-so-subtle billboard in New York.
Warner Bros. put a teaser for the upcoming Superman trailer on a billboard in the middle of Times Square, revealing that it will be released this week on Wednesday. In recent social media comments, Gunn has been teasing that the new trailer has been ready to go after working on it for the past few months. Meanwhile, a five-minute clip was shown in theaters last month of David Corenswet’s Kryptonian hero at the Fortress of Solitude. It is unclear exactly how the new trailer will make its way online, but fans can get a sneak preview in the announcement below.

The first full trailer for ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 is finally here, as James Gunn brings the anti-hero into the new DCU.

Gunn recently confirmed that the Superman teaser released in December 2024 was not the film’s official trailer. DC Studios will unveil it for the first time this Wednesday, presumably during their usual 12 p.m. ET release window. If not, then perhaps the studio is waiting to release it during an NBA playoff game. The Boston Celtics and New York Knicks will be playing at 7 p.m. ET, which would be the most likely landing spot for the trailer. Since DC Studios has been collaborating with Celtics star Jayson Tatum on Superman-themed commercials, it seems they might be timing the release of the preview during the upcoming NBA game, which will be among the most watched match-ups this week.
‘Superman’ Has an Unexpected Take on Classic Romance

Before fans get to see more of Superman this week, James Gunn and David Corenswet recently took the time to tease the film’s central romance between Clark Kent and Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan). Inspired by the classic 1940 romantic comedy His Girl Friday, the upcoming DCU film will take the Clark-Lois relationship to another level compared to previous adaptations. “The rhythm, the patter, and the feeling of two people in love who really are an equal match for the other,” Corenswet stated. Meanwhile, Gunn teased that the three-month-long relationship may not be picture-perfect because of Lois potentially questioning their future together.

“[It’s] a personal journey for Superman that’s entirely new. He’s in love with her. She’s the one that needs the convincing in the relationship. It’s not him. You really see where he needs her in his life.”

This coincides with what Brosnahan previously confirmed about Lois and Clark’s romance. Even after three months together, Superman will tackle how the dynamic duo have “opposite worldviews,” which leads to them asking questions about the seriousness of this relationship.

“They’ve been together for about three months, and they’re asking some questions about the future of their relationship. They’re not sure if this is something that was just a really great fling or something that could be forever, and they have really opposite worldviews — and they bump up against each other that way. So, it was a really fun way into a familiar story.”
