New ‘Superman’ Posters Highlight Green Lantern, Hawkgirl & More DCU Heroes
Jun 10, 2025
After several years of anticipation, James Gunn’s Superman is nearly upon us, and the DCU film is ramping up its marketing after the action-packed trailer was released last month. Set to hit theaters on Jul. 11, Superman will introduce a bevy of new superheroes to the big screen, all of which have been highlighted in exciting new promotional images from the film. Gunn went to social media to share new character posters featuring the main cast of Superman. With the tagline “Our metahumans arrive this summer in #Superman,” the super-powered characters of the film are front and center. In addition to David Corenswet as Superman, DC fans can get a closer look at Green Lantern (Nathan Fillion), Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced) and Mr. Terrific (Edi Gathegi), among others. Meanwhile, the film’s villains, including The Engineer and Ultraman, did not get their own posters. You can check them out below.

New ‘Superman’ Behind-the-Scenes Video Confirms Why David Corenswet Is the Perfect Man of Steel
A new video from the official ‘Superman’ account showcases a wholesome behind-the-scenes moment with star David Corenswet.
Those featured in the new Superman posters are longtime DC characters that are finally getting their time in the limelight ahead of the official debut of the rebooted cinematic universe. There appears to be a big push by DC Studios to get audiences acclimated with these heroes, especially since several appear in Peacemaker Season 2, which is set to stream on HBO Max later this year. Interestingly enough, Metamorpho, played by Barry star Anthony Carrigan, did not get his own poster. The rest of the Superman cast features Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, María Gabriela De Faría as The Engineer, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Sara Sampaio, Pruitt Taylor Vince, Skyler Gisondo, Wendell Pierce, Beck Bennett, and Sean Gunn.
‘Superman’ Was Influenced by This Incredible ‘Godzilla’ Film
James Gunn’s highly-anticipated interpretation of Superman was influenced by several pieces of iconic DC media, including Superman (1978) and Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely’s All-Star Superman comic run. However, there was another, more unexpected source of inspiration for Gunn. In a new interview, the director revealed that he wanted to make Superman in the same vein as Godzilla Minus One. Regarded as one of the best Godzilla films of all time, Minus One received widespread acclaim in 2023 for its Oscar-winning visual effects and central human story. Gunn wanted to achieve a similar balance in Superman.
“My goal is to make a film that depicts Godzilla like Godzilla-1.0, but also has a great human drama. Superman and the flying dog (Krypto) also appear in this film, but at its core is a human story. The relationship between Clark Kent, Lois Lane, and (villain) Lex Luthor is at the core of the work.”
With David Corenswet’s Kryptonian hero fighting kaijus, Superman will be like Godzilla Minus One in more ways than one. However, it appears Gunn is mostly referring to putting the focus on the story and the relationships between the main characters, which Minus One was able to achieve while not losing the essence of previous Godzilla films. If Superman operates anywhere near the same level as Minus One, then DC fans are in for a treat later this summer. Source: James Gunn (X)
