One year ago this week, DC Studios began production on Superman, James Gunn has celebrated the anniversary by posting a new look at the highly-anticipated DCU film. Starring David Corenswet as the Kryptonian hero, Gunn’s latest venture in a DC franchise looks to jumpstart the rebooted cinematic universe on the big screen. Early returns suggest that Superman will be the superhero hit of the summer, and the latest look at the film will surely get fans even more excited about the reboot.
Gunn posted on X an image of Superman standing in snow with the caption, “One year ago today. Longyearbyen, Svalbard. Faster than a speeding bullet toward July 11, 2025.” The filming locale, which can be seen through the record-breaking Superman trailer, is home to the Fortress of Solitude, the hero’s base of operations. Although the iconic location is not visible in the new image, fans are well aware of the implications of a Superman walking through snowy terrain. Check out the image below:

The last look fans got at Superman caused a bit of an uproar on the internet, as divisive superhero things tend to do. The trailer for the film was an outright hit, but another shorter teaser that revealed Corenswet in flight got some flack for what some fans perceived to be “dodgy CGI.” It turned out to be the actor’s face amidst a real-life backdrop (as seen in the new snow-filled photo), but that did not stop from the fanbase get into a hot discussion about the current state of superhero movie CGI.
James Gunn Gets Honest About Possible ‘Superman’ Reshoots

Fresh off the heels of the film’s one-year anniversary, James Gunn has revealed a new perspective on potential reshoots for Superman after test screenings. Although additional photography is normal for big-budget blockbusters of this scale, Gunn is known for making minimal to non-existent changes to a film after it finishes production and has a working cut. However, it seems he has changed his tune with Superman and his recent projects, even though he insists the changes he’ll make aren’t “anything major.”

“All my additional photography is so hard, because it’s like, I used to be kind of against it. Because, you know, you don’t want to have to shoot again. It’s a pain in the ass. But as time has gone on, and I’ve made more movies, I really like being able to say, ‘You know what? I wish I had a shot that fist hitting that…’ And so I do tend to go back and pick that kind of stuff up. So it wouldn’t be anything major, but those kinds of things, yeah, I’ll cover you a couple more things like that.”

The early word from test screenings is a bit iffy thus far, but as most of those kinds of things go, it’s best to remain patient until Superman is truly completed and ready to hit theaters. As Gunn notes, a number of small changes could be in the store for the film. Moreover, the director is now hard at work editing the next trailer, so Superman fans will get a better taste of what’s to come soon enough.
