New “Terminator Meets Hunger Games” Adaptation of Recent Sci-Fi Action Hit Officially Confirmed
Oct 6, 2026
Particularly in the 21st century, TV and movie adaptations of popular video games have taken up a great deal of space in the entertainment industry. In the 2020s alone, Universal hit big with two animated Super Mario Bros. movies behind Chris Pratt and Jack Black, both of which grossed over $1 billion at the global box office. In the streaming world, studios like Amazon and Netflix have hit big in both animation and live-action, as adaptations like Fallout and Arcane have become mega-hits in the last half-decade. Now, another more recent video game is set to get this same treatment, although many of the details are still being kept under wraps.
Variety announced that TV and movie adaptations for ARC Raiders are being developed behind Chernin Entertainment and Nexon-owned video game developer Embark Studios. The North Road Company’s Chernin Entertainment film and TV division was chosen among several production companies and studios competing for the rights. Now, it will be the lead producer on ARC Raiders, originally a multiplayer third-person extraction shooter game released in 2025 for the PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S. ARC Raiders has sold over 16 million copies in the year since it was released. It was named the best multiplayer game at the 2025 Game Awards and the online game of the year at the 29th Annual D.I.C.E. Awards. Furthermore, it received the best multiplayer award at the 2026 BAFTA Games Awards, making it one of the most successful games in recent memory.

ARC Raiders is set on a lethal future Earth (the year 2180 specifically), which. has been ravaged by a mysterious mechanized threat known as ARC, forcing humanity to retreat underground. Survivors live in a subterranean chasm-city called Speranza, and the heroes of the story are The Raiders, scavengers who venture to the surface to fight robots and support the underground community. In the expeditions, players go to the surface on their own or in squads of three for 30-minute matches to collect resources, complete vendor quests, and extract via elevators or metro stations without being killed. The game’s combat includes environmental threats and unpredictable player-versus-player conflict. The story is already garnering comparisons to movies like Terminator and Hunger Games, with its use of hi-tech robotics and a dystopian future and civilization.
While story details for ARC Raiders are still being kept under wraps, this will bring one of the most popular games of the last couple of years to life in an entertainment world that has more than its fair share of top-notch video game adaptations. There is also no timeframe for when production will get underway or when roles will be cast, and the report did not specify which streamer or studio will host the adaptations of this video game.
