A new trailer has dropped for the wild-looking body horror film The Substance, which stars Demi Moore, Margaret Qualley, and Dennis Quaid. There’s been a lot of buzz building for this movie, particularly around Moore’s performance. This looks like a great movie, a more twisted and dark version of something we might see from The Twilight Zone. The story for the film revolves around a new product called The Substance that promises to transform people into the best version of themselves of their dreams. As you might imagine, there’s a sinister twist.Moore takes on the role of Elisabeth Sparkle, renowned for an aerobics show, and she faces a devastating blow on her 50th birthday as her boss fires her. Amid her distress, a laboratory offers her a substance that promises to transform her into an enhanced version of herself.Elisabeth must now split her time equally between her current self and her new, younger body (Qualley), with one week in each body. Elisabeth is warned: “The one and only thing not to forget: you are one. You can’t escape from yourself.” But as you’ll see, things get out of hand and Sue says that “the balance isn’t working” and Elisabeth reports a “slight misuse” of the drug. The film came with the following note: “Have you ever dreamed of a better version of yourself? You should try this new product: The Substance. It changed my life. “With The Substance, you can generate another version of yourself, younger, more beautiful, more perfect… Just share the time. One week for one, one week for the other. A perfect balance of seven days. Easy isn’t it? If you respect the balance… what could possibly go wrong?”The movie was written and directed by Coralie Fargeat, who previously made the 2017 action-thriller Revenge. The movie will get a theatrical release on September 20th.
