No One’s Walking Away Clean

Editor’s note: The below recap contains spoilers for Bosch: Legacy Season 3 Episode 9.
Bosch: Legacy kicks off its penultimate hour with all the quiet tension of a loaded weapon—and then pulls the trigger. With Zorrillo in custody, a major power player eliminated, and Harry crossing yet another personal line, Episode 9 peels back the cost of justice when it’s delivered in the shadows. There’s black ops in Mexico, busted families in LA, and one last promise between father and daughter that hangs heavier than a bullet. Everyone’s doing what they think is right — but no one’s walking away clean. This is as dark and personal as Bosch has ever been.

We begin in near silence. Zorrillo slips into the backyard of a darkened house with a device to kill the lights. Gun in hand, he steps inside—this is Sheriff Garrity’s (Chris Bauer) house. He stubs out a cigarette on the sheriff’s photo and vanishes into the night. But the sheriff’s one step ahead, watching from his neighbor’s window. As he tries to flee, he gets an alert—someone’s at his back door. That someone is Harry Bosch (Titus Welliver), and he’s here for Jimmy Robertson.
Harry corners the corrupt sheriff and lays it out: Perra fingered Zorrillo for Robertson’s murder, and it’s time to pay the price. The sheriff gets two choices—hand over Zorrillo, or be buried with him. He says he sent Jimmy to Las Palmas to meet a witness, but it was a setup. “Zorrillo shot him,” the sheriff says. He offers to trade Zorrillo’s location and DNA in exchange for protection. Honey Chandler (Mimi Rogers) gets the update: the new suspect is the sheriff. Bosch hands him over to the LAPD and the DA’s office. Chandler meets with Chief Hughes, who wants the death penalty. Chandler says the message will be strong—but only if they get it right. She wants facts, not theatrics.

With the case shifting rapidly, Bosch and his special ops contact Ken Gurbizs enlist a fixer to get them into Mexico. “Wherever the f*** you sent Finbar McShane,” Bosch tells him. They’re not doing recon—they’re planning a takedown. This isn’t police work anymore, it’s personal warfare.
Diego Perra (Esteban Carmona) may have been a pawn, but the game’s shifted. In Mexico, Finbar McShane enlists a local kid’s help in boosting a car for him, but stiffs him on the pay. That definitely won’t backfire on him. Bosch, Mo (Stephen A. Chang), and Ken (Gonzalo Menendez) prepare for the trip at Harry’s house. Maddie (played by Madison Lintz) walks in and sees all the gear. She makes Harry promise he’ll bring McShane back alive.
Vasquez’s Family Is Fractured in ‘Bosch: Legacy’ Season 3 Episode 9
Reina Vasquez (Denise G. Sanchez) visits her nephew Albert (played by Tommy Martinez) in lockup. His mother still won’t speak to Vasquez. She tells Albert he can cut a deal and reduce his time. She didn’t turn him in for revenge—she did it to keep him breathing. It’s the kind of betrayal that only love makes possible, even if it’s an unforgivable one.
Maddie and Vasquez respond to a call at Councilman Curry’s home—another overdose. Another victim. Vasquez tries again with her sister, but there’s nothing left to say. Later, Maddie and Vasquez blow off steam at a bar. A drunk guy picks a fight, and they get kicked out—but not before Maddie pays the tab, because of course she did.

In Mexico, Zorrillo (played by Manuel Uriza) is raided by the DEA and taken into custody. But it’s obvious—he’s not the man in charge. Bosch and Ken hit a local bar, where the kid McShane stiffed earlier tells them he can help them. He knows where McShane is. They set up a stakeout, waiting for their shot at justice for the Gallagher family.
McShane shows up, moving quickly as he begins loading his car with bags and gear. Harry watches from a distance, then gives the greenlight—they’re going now. Mo stays behind to keep watch from the perimeter while Bosch and Ken move in together. They close in on McShane, catch him off guard, and double-team him, forcing him down and dragging him to his vehicle. They shove him into the car as quickly as they can, and head for their own SUV to bundle him to the airstrip. But the kid from the bar has already tipped off the authorities, and now the local police are on their way. The plan is falling apart faster than they can contain it.
At the airstrip, the feds are already there. Ken improvises. They pull over. He pulls McShane out and beats him bloody. McShane laughs, brags about the kids he hurt. Harry hesitates—but Ken doesn’t. He shoots McShane in the head and ends it. Back in LA, Bosch pours a drink. He calls Siobhan (played by Orla Brady) in Ireland. “It’s over,” he says. He tells her to look him up if she ever comes back to LA. She promises she will. It’s a goodbye wrapped in old feelings neither of them will ever shake. Maddie shows up. She asks what happened. Harry asks if she really wants to know. He says McShane didn’t die by his hand. She asks if it’s case closed. “Case closed,” he says. But the weight of that answer lingers long after the words.

Pros & Cons
It’s a suitably dark resolution for an awful case.
The scene between Harry and Siobhan is lovely.
The scene between Vasquez and her sister doesn’t feel emotional enough.
