Noah Hawley’s Earthbound ‘Alien’ Series Adds ‘Don’t Worry Darling’ Actress Sydney Chandler

May 2, 2023

While a new “Alien” movie is currently being filmed by Fede Álvarez, that’s not the only upcoming project expected to expand the ‘Alien’-verse, as Noah Hawley (“Fargo“) is finally gearing up to shoot his own FX series that is Earthbound and said to take place before the events of the main films that first launched in 1979. A big update concerning the series has been announced as the first cast member has been added to the show in a lead role.

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that up-and-coming actress Sydney Chandler is the first cast member to join the sci-fi horror series that has Hawley set as the showrunner and is being produced by Ridley Scott via Scott Free as the steward of the beloved sci-fi franchise. Chandler is likely best known for roles in director Olivia Wilde‘s “Don’t Worry Darling” and appearing in Danny Boyle‘s FX Sex Pistols series, “Pistol.”
Having a strong female protagonist has become a key aspect of the mainline “Alien” franchise from Sigourney Weaver’s Ellen Ripley, Noomi Rapace‘s Dr. Elizabeth Shaw, and Katherine Waterston‘s Daniels. This was recently mirrored with the new film too as young actresses Cailee Spaeny and Isabela Merced have taken lead roles there, continuing the female-centric tradition.
We don’t have exact plot details but given the show takes place on Earth, there is a good shot that it could be exploring the evil corporation Weyland-Yutani’s obsession with bio-weapons and androids. However, it’s unclear how this will bring the Xenomorphs into the show given their origin was sort of explained in Scott’s prequel films “Prometheus” and “Alien: Covenant” as those events took place off-world with the help of Engineer technology via the black goo. Hawley has previously mused that the company was just as dangerous/threatening as the Xenomorph itself and might speak to what he hopes to do with his series incarnation.
Given the VFX involved with the show, we suspect it won’t be ready for audiences until next year.
