What We Know About Once Upon a Time in Uganda
As seen in the Once Upon a Time in Uganda clip above, the Wakaliwood finds creative and cost-effective methods of bringing their bloody vision to life. One such method includes condoms doubling as blood bags, making for a visual treat and causing the crew to crack up. Director Nabwana takes a hands-on approach to storytelling, and the end result is a great time for audiences and creatives alike.
In a press statement, Drafthouse Films CEO Nick Savva shared that, “The whole Drafthouse Films team is magnetically drawn to stories that explore what it means to be in love with cinema. This film is no exception.” Yellow Veil Pictures Co-Founder Hugues Barbier added that the documentary appealed to him because it “not only tells the fascinating untold story of Issac Nabwana’s true passion for stories and spectacle, but it’s also a heartfelt story of friendship.”
“It reminds us so much as to why we love films in the first place, and teaming up with Drafthouse Films to bring this gem to the public seemed like the natural thing to do. We can’t wait to see this with an audience cheering and laughing.”
Aside from directing, Czubek also co-wrote the film with Amanda Hughes. Once Upon a Time in Uganda was produced by Czubek, Gigi Dement, Hugo Perez, Matt Porwoll, and Kyaligamba Ark Martin.
Once Upon a Time in Uganda is hitting Drafthouse theaters across the country on July 7 and then going to other markets on July 14. The film will have an On Demand release on July 25.
